Asuka and Naomi have teamed up to compete in the women’s tag team division a few times. But they aren’t officially a tag team. A new championship can help the women’s tag team division because it allows WWE to solidify who are and who aren’t a part of a tag team.

Recent NXT callups Shotzi and Nox are a legit tag team and won against the Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina on their Smackdown debut. Tegan Nox also recently won a one-on-one match against Tamina on Smackdown, further boosting their chances at the Women’s Tag Team Championship opportunity.

WWE loves creating makeshift or mismatch tag teams. Most of these teams, like Naomi and Asuka, typically don’t last long. However, some teams like the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina find success.

A new women’s division championship could benefit the women’s tag teams by developing real tag teams rather than putting two superstars together so that they have something to do.
