WWE SmackDown: 3 things we are glad didn’t happen on this week’s episode (January 29, 2019)

R-Truth's double win was a huge surprise on the show!
R-Truth's double win was a huge surprise on the show!

SmackDown Live has slowly crept up the ranks and become at par with the flagship show of WWE, Raw, since the past year or so.

This has been achieved by the presence of some top stars and performers in the business today, namely Becky Lynch, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Charlotte Flair, and Daniel Bryan.

Any episode of the brand which involves all these superstars in some capacity is always great. This week's episode was great due to these superstars being a part of interesting segments that made their storylines better.

Apart from that, the episode had a surprise change in the United States Champion, and also gave us the number one contender for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

While a few bad spots surely made the show questionable, there were still some things we are glad did not happen on this week’s episode.

Check out what they were and share your thoughts in the comments section below!

#3 The Bar get an automatic rematch

While WWE has done away with the automatic rematch clause, which allows a superstar who has recently lost their championship a shot at the title again, we have still seen Shinsuke Nakamura get his rematch against Rusev.

Nakamura even went on to beat Rusev in the rematch at the Royal Rumble pre-show to reclaim his championship, only to lose it again to R-Truth two nights later.

While it seemed as though The Miz and Shane McMahon were building towards a lengthy feud with The Bar, that does not seem to be the case anymore.

After The Bar lost their titles to The Miz and Shane, Shane set up a fatal four-way match to determine the next contenders for their titles.

The match not only included The Bar, but also included The New Day, The Usos, and Heavy Machinery.

While it would have made sense for The Bar to get their rematch by trash talking in a promo and getting The Miz or Shane McMahon to accept their challenge, it was good to see that WWE is following the conditions they had laid down just a weeks ago on Raw when Seth Rollins asked for his Intercontinental Championship rematch from Triple H.

#2 Heavy Machinery get overlooked

NXT has seen a lot of wrestlers getting called up to the main roster in the past few years. Being the developmental brand, that is exactly what the purpose of NXT was, until it became as good as the other two main brands of WWE.

However, some star performers from NXT have been called up to the main roster and then wasted, which has been heartbreaking. While Mojo Rawley, No Way Jose, and Dana Brooke may not have been huge stars, Tye Dillinger, Sanity, and Ember Moon definitely are, but got drowned into the lower cards and have largely disappeared from weekly televised matches.

With Heavy Machinery being two of the six new call-ups, it’s good to see them get a chance and get in the spotlight right away.

While The Bar, The Usos, and The New Day are already established teams, SmackDown has The Good Brothers, Sanity, and Primo and Epico who could have gotten the fourth spot in the match, but Heavy Machinery was lucky to take that spot.

#1 Charlotte get inserted into the Lynch vs Rousey match

Charlotte made her way into the championship scene once again

One thing that everyone has been talking about is the potential inclusion of Charlotte in the WrestleMania 35 bout between Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey.

While Charlotte is a top class performer, the build-up to Lynch and Rousey’s match has been so perfect that anyone’s inclusion could irritate fans.

Becky Lynch wasted no time in laying down the challenge to Ronda Rousey, who wasted even lesser time in accepting it. Fans were extremely happy that it took little time for this to happen, but it could have all been ruined for many of them only 24 hours later.

It is possible that Charlotte will be included in the match between Lynch and Rousey at WrestleMania, but we are glad that it did not happen so soon on this week’s show.

Some fans will be extremely glad if it does not happen at all since we have been waiting for Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey to lock horns one on one for a long time now.
