The last SmackDown of the year was pretty customary and did not have any groundbreaking or controversial moment to speak of. It was a typical show where at the end of the night, the babyfaces triumphed over the heels and all was well with the WWE universe. The last Smackdown of the year unravelled and with this WWE will now head over to beginning the new year with a bang, or at least we hope they do.Reigns may be the face going forward and he hasn't really taken a bad step, it's only bad booking that can be blamed. Here are the 5 points to note from this week-
#1 Bromance of the year
Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE
Smackdown for the most part of this year and last has been about the brotherhood of Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. They’ve main evented so many of its episodes that it would have been uncharacteristic for them not to end the last episode of Smackdown triumphant together.
It had a customary tag team match and both of them teamed against the men whom they beat for their respective titles. It was interesting to see Owens and Sheamus team up after their brief but entertaining Twitter war which Owens obviously won.
The night ended with the babyfaces standing tall and that was the traditional send-off for the new year.
#2 New Year, New Day
Smackdown was kicked off by New Day and they were still pretty much rattled that they did not win the Slammy for Tag team of The Year. Well, they may not be the best tag team wrestlers around with The Usos, The Lucha Dragons putting on some splendid matches but they are certainly the best on the mic.
That has heavily put their gimmick over. Kofi Kingston, especially, is the pleasant surprise. He heels it up so well on the mic. ‘Appreciate greatness’, as he says folks. Also, he twerked by the end of their segment.
Their resolutions required the whole of the WWE Universe to wear glasses and hearing aides, to see and hear all this greatness. Keep a New Day Journal to write about the ‘smorgasbord of greatness’ and then ‘spring in your booty and song in your hearts – NEW DAY ROCKS!’
.
#3 One last Gorgeous Selfie
Not that they ever achieved greatness but they were good at playing their parts. They were just relegated to randomness and hence Summer Rae and Tyler Breeze had the mostly rarely seen mutual break up on WWE television.
It remains to be seen what happens going forward since both of them, especially Summer Rae, have been entertaining with whatever material they've had to work with with.
It was all so amicable that they posed for one last gorgeous selfie.
#4 Ziggler Match
Ziggler has been only having random matches and no definite storyline. He faced Bo Dallas this week on the last Smackdown episode of 2015 and won with a stupendous superkick.
If there were any comparisons ever to Shawn Michaels, then this would have been a happy moment to witness from his and HBK’s fans.
And Bo Dallas still remains funny. He is a residential jobber on the main roster but there is still scope for him to move beyond that. Don’t really know if his NXT glory will ever come to the fore on the main roster but he surely has potential.
#5 Confusion Again
So, there was another customary Divas match on Smackdown and it did nothing much to move upon any existing storyline. It was another meaningless match with a meaningless victory. There was no Nikki Bella or Sasha Banks and that may have something to do with the lack of interest.
Team B.A.D and Team Bella had a decent match, no doubt but it would be quite lost on the viewer as to what the point of this match was.
Anyway, Happy New Year.
