The Cutting Edge, with The Undertaker’s return:
Grade: 8.5/10
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
This was a wonderful way to close the show, as the two most anticipated segments for the show occurred almost simultaneously.
Edge received a strong ovation from the crowd, and his verbal sparring with Styles and Wyatt was a sight to see. The Rated R Superstar’s confrontation of Orton and his new attitude was a nice touch, with Wyatt stating that the “Randy you once knew is dead”.
Edge congratulating Ellsworth instead of Styles was a fun touch, and Ambrose and Styles almost coming to blows about their TLC bout on December 4th, was a great method of keeping the rivalry partially at the forefront.
Although he did not answer the questions fans thought he would (retirement, one last opponent, etc.), The Undertaker’s return was nonetheless a wonderful moment. Intrigue on his future is at an all-time high, and with Taker stating that “Wrestlemania doesn’t define me” and “I’m back, taking souls and digging holes”; fans are now incredibly excited for what lies ahead for the Deadman.
Will he return as a full-time member of the Smackdown Live roster up until Wrestlemania? Will he have one last shot at the WWE World Championship?
These questions will be answered in the coming weeks, and Undertaker did a great job of teasing what the future holds, but not stating anything outright. Threatening to punish the SmackDown Live team, if they are unable to win on Sunday, will add some much-needed repercussions for Sunday’s bout other than brand supremacy.
Furthermore, Undertaker taking over as leader of the Smackdown roster once again (if only for one night) was splendid. Overall, a strong Cutting Edge and a stellar return for the Deadman, whose future is incredibly intriguing.
Overall Grade for 900th Smackdown Live: 8/10
