#1 No real long-term benefits
Sure, Braun Strowman vs Tyson Fury brings a lot of commercial value due to the popularity of the Gypsy King. The fact that most of the press in the United Kingdom is extensively covering his segments is a testament to what he brings to the table.
This is a classic case of smash and grab from the company. They hype up the match for an event and make a lot of money and then they move on with their weekly show.
This is as short-term as it gets. Once Fury is off WWE TV, the media coverage won’t be as much, so there is little long-term benefit to this match. WWE is not building a star here that could go on to become a money-magnet in the future; they are using the services of an establish personality from another world.
There is no long-term storyline to be made from this, and there will be nothing to gain for Strowman. In fact, if anything, he stands to lose a lot more since losing against Fury – who is not a pro-wrestler – will hurt the image of the Monster Among Men, while winning against him won’t ring many bells since Fury could always be defended with the “he is not a wrestler” argument.
