WWE SmackDown came to us live from the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Dean Ambrose is set to take on AJ Styles in tonight’s main event and should the Lunatic Fringe beat The Phenomenal One he will become the #1 contender for the WWE World Championship.

James Ellsworth and Dean Ambrose
SmackDown kicks off with Dean Ambrose and James Ellsworth backstage. The Jobber thanks Ambrose and extends his help to the former Champion by insisting that he will be at The Lunatic Fringe’s corner during his match with Styles later.
However, Ambrose is not convinced by the idea and suggests that the man behind the catchphrase – ‘Any man with two hands has a fighting chance’ – remain in the locker room before adding that the two will catch up later. Ellsworth is distraught and the audience boo it.
During a backstage segment later, Andrea D’Marco is seen interviewing AJ Styles, who rubbishes his two losses against Ellsworth and says that without Ambrose, the Jobber couldn’t have done anything and adds that he will rearrange Ambrose’s face later tonight.
The Phenomenal One adds that The Lunatic Fringe will need to be carried out of SmackDown later tonight before insisting that if Ellsworth appears during his match, something other than his chin will go missing.
Kane vs. Bray Wyatt (No Disqualification match)
Bray Wyatt is the first to make his way to the ring followed by The Big Red Machine. Kane has the early advantage as he hits a dropkick before following it up with big splashes in one corner of the ring.
The two then take the action to ringside where Bray picks up a steel chair to inflict some damage on Kane but The Big Red Machine sends him crashing into the steel steps. Kane sizes up Wyatt for the Chokeslam but the lights go out and Luke Harper is standing on the top of the announcer’s table. Harper lands a big boot on Kane and follows it with a clothesline.
Kane makes a momentary comeback but Wyatt is pulled out by Harper, who is taken out by the Demon. As the two make their way back into the ring, Wyatt lands a modified Rock Bottom on Kane for a nearfall. The Eater of Worlds then goes for Sister Abigail but is stopped by Kane, who tries to hit the Chokeslam instead but is blocked.
Randy Orton’s music hits and the crowd go ballistic. The Viper makes his way to the ring and stands up to Harper, who slowly backs off. Kane sizes up Wyatt for the Chokeslam while Orton prepares for the RKO as Wyatt slowly makes his way back to his feet.
However, Orton nails the RKO outta nowhere on The Big Red Machine – much to the surprise of Wyatt and walks off to boos. Bray covers Kane for the 3-count.
Result: Bray Wyatt defeats Kane via pinfall
The return of Becky Lynch
Becky Lynch is welcomed to the ring by Renee Young and receives a standing ovation from the crowd. The returning SmackDown Women’s Champion is interrupted immediately by Alexa Bliss, who insists that The Irish Lass Kicker looks in great shape despite her back surgery. However, Lynch denies it and adds that the doctors did not let her compete at No Mercy.
Bliss then calls Lynch a coward and asks her to hand over the title to her. The Champion responds by calling the #1 contender crazy and adds that she will see her in two weeks time at Glasgow. The two cut decent promos.
Alexa tries to catch the Champion off guard with a cheap shot but is blocked by Lynch, who responds with a forearm of her own. Alexa then rolls out of the ring and the Champion follows but Bliss charges into her and sends her crashing into the steel ring post before rolling her back into the ring.
Alexa then nails a DDT on the Champion to leave her motionless in the ring. She then goes out of the ring to fetch a bottle of spray paint and paints a yellow line on the back of Lynch.
The Ascension vs. The Hype Bros
The winner of the match will be representing SmackDown in the team’s 5 vs 5 traditional Elimination Match at Survivor Series next month.
Before the match, a video airs in which The Ascension claim that there is no bigger or badder team in the entire SmackDown roster and insist that they will rise at Survivor Series. A video of The Hype Bros follows who promise to win their match against The Ascension.
It is Ryder and Konnor who kick things off in the middle and it is Konnor who lands a clothesline to knock Ryder out of the ring. He then brings back Ryder inside the ring and lands an European uppercut before tagging in his partner, who begins to work on Ryder before tagging Konnor back into the game.
However, Ryder fights back with a jawbreaker and both men make tags. Rowley enters the ring and takes out Viktor before nailing a corner splash for the pin but it is broken up by Konnon, who is then taken out by Ryder. The Hype Bros then hit the Hype Ryder on Viktor before Rowley rolls him for the 3-count.
Result: The Hype Bros defeat The Ascension via pinfall
Randy Orton teases joining The Wyatt Family
Orotn is backstage with Andrea, who asks The Viper to explain his actions earlier in the night when he attacked Kane who had been helping him out against The Wyatt Family.
The Viper refuses to answer the question but says: “If you can’t beat them, join them.”
Kane responds to Randy Orton
After SmackDown Live came to an end, Kane was present with Renee Young and Daniel Bryan on Talking Smack where he addressed Orton’s attack on him.
Nikki Bella vs. Natalya
Before the match, Natalya is seen backstage with Daniel Bryan and she addresses her feat that SmackDown will fall behind Raw at Survivor Series and proposes to Captain the women’s team for the PPV. The SmackDown Live General Manager adds a stipulation to her match with Nikki. Bryan announces that the winner of the match will captain the SmackDown team but the loser won’t be part of the team.
Nikki has all the momentum early on in the fight as she starts off with an Oklahoma Roll before following it up with a crucifix pin but Natalya manages to kick out of the two but Nikki nails a dropkick to send her outside. Natalya fights back and sends Nikki face first into the apron before hitting a forearm.
She then locks up the Bella twin in a modified bow and arrow but Nikki is able to counter it into a roll up pin. Nattie then locks Nikki in a headlock of which the former Divas Champion powers out but Natalya then locks her in the Sharpshooter.
Nikki then fights back and hits the Enziguiri off the corner for a nearfall. Natalya then goes for an inverted surfboard but the Bella twin expertly converts it into an STF and forces Natalya to tap out.
Result: Nikki Bella defeats Natalya via submission
As Nikki celebrates her win over Natalya, Carmella attacks her and hits her with a barrage of forearms before nailing the Bella Buster on her.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship: Heath Slater and Rhyno (c) vs. The Spirit Squad
Before the match, The Miz and Spirit Squad were in the ring trash talking Dolph Ziggler, who walks out to confront them. After some promo cutting, he is joined by SmackDown Tag Team Champions. The Miz then trash talks Rhyno and Slater before challenging them to a match against the Spirit Squad with the title on the line and Rhyno readily accepts it.
Kenny and Slater kick off the match with the former in control. The Spirit Squad take turns to work on Slater as the crowd chant “We want Rhyno”. However, the former ‘Hottest Free Agent’ fights back and tags in Rhyno, who slams Kenny but is attacked by Mikey.
The Spirit Squad then try to double up on Rhyno but Slater hits Mikey with a running knee while Rhyno nails a belly-to-belly suplex for a nearfall. On the ringside, The Miz and Ziggler clash while Slater taking advantage of the situation sends Kenny crashing into the Miz. Rhyno nails the Gore on Mikey before covering him up for the pinfall.
Result: Heath Slater and Rhyno beat The Spirit Squad
AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose (with James Ellsworth)
Fast start from Ambrose to the match who hits Styles fast and furiously. He sends AJ toppling over the top and Styles viciously attacks James Ellsworth. Ambrose to check on Ellsworth but Styles hits him with a plancha.
Styles hits Ambrose with a dropkick as we come back from the break. Ambrose, in turn, sends Styles crashing to the outside and hits Styles with a Tope Suicida and lays him out. He then drags Styles back in and continues to work on him.
Styles tries to reverse into a Calf Crush but Ambrose blocks it and has Styles in a Cloverleaf but Styles stretches and manages to reach the ropes. Styles and Ambrose are both on the apron and Styles hits Ambrose with a snap suplex on the apron!!
Ambrose and Styles trade blows to the face with Ambrose coming out on top with some vicious forearms. Ambrose pins Styles following a back press for the nearfall.
Dean tries to go for a superplex but Styles breaks out and hits a perfect springboard inverted DDT! 1 - 2 - He kicks out! What a move! Styles goes looking for a Styles Clash but Ambrose powers out and almost clotheslines Styles' head off. He follows it up with a superplex from the top rope. Both men are down.
Styles recovers first and locks in the Calf Crusher but Ambrose scratches and crawls his way to the rope. With Ambrose still recovering from the Calf Crusher, Styles hits Ellsworth with a basement dropkick. Styles then goes for a phenomenal forearm but Ambrose blocks and goes for a Dirty Deeds of his own. Styles manages to block.
With Styles reeling on the outside we see James Ellsworth deliver a Superkick to Styles out of revenge. However, he ends up causing Dean the chance to be #1 contender as AJ wins by DQ.
Result: AJ Styles defeats Dean Ambrose by Disqualification
