WWE SmackDown results, 2nd August

This week’s edition of SmackDown was taped in Houston, Texas.

Alberto Del Rio made his way to the ring and thanked the fans for nothing. He thanked Vickie Gurrero for allowing him to choose his own opponent for the title and nearly chose Ricardo Rodriguez as his challenger.

Vickie Gurrero had other plans as she interrupted and introduced a triple threat match to determine the No.1 contender for the World Title at SummerSlam.

Cody Rhodes vs Jack Swagger

A quick match that had very less to talk about. Cody countered a gut wrench Powerbomb to get an unexpected pinfall for the victory.

Cody then talked about Sandow being arrogant and how he was the best part of Rhodes Scholars. Sandow came from behind and attacked Cody. Officials interrupted and saved Rhodes from the brutal beating.

Winner: Cody Rhodes

Sin Cara vs Big E Langston

That match was over within a blink of an eye. Ziggler watched the match backstage in a monitor as Big E laid the Big Ending on Cara to finish the match.

Winner: Big E Langston

Kaitlyn was interviewed backstage with Layla. Kaitlyn talked about winning the Divas Title in the same arena for the first time. Layla called Kaitlyn the best; they hugged each other as Layla had a huge smile on her face.

CM Punk vs Fandango

A well fought match that clearly showed Fandango’s ability to wrestler. Punk was at his usual best. Fandango used Summer Rae to gain some momentum in the match. There were several close falls for both wrestlers, but Punk connected the Anaconda Vice on Fandango to effect an immediate tap out.

Winner: CM Punk

RVD, Christian and Orton had a talk about their Triple Threat match later on in the show. Christian talked about his much deserved ‘one more chance’.

AJ Lee vs Kaitlyn (Divas Championship)

AJ jumped on Kaitlyn as soon as the bell rings and choked Kaitlyn to the floor.

Kaitlyn fought back as AJ managed to get out of the ring. Kaitlyn chased AJ outside as Layla came in between AJ and Kaitlyn.

AJ ran back into the ring as Kaitlyn was distracted. AJ capitalized on the situation and applied the Black Widow to make Kaitlyn tap out. Layla and AJ skipped up the ramp as Kaitlyn looked stunned.

Winner: AJ Lee

No.1 Contender Triple Threat Match: Randy Orton vs RVD vs Christian

Without any doubt, it was the match of the night as it had three great performers. Randy Orton countering the Rolling Thunder to a Powerslam was excellent, and there were a few spots from RVD that the match could boast of.

Orton looked to hit Christian with an RKO, but RVD interrupted and got RKOed instead. Orton then went for Christian again, but he countered the RKO and rolled up Orton for the victory.

Winner: Christian

Orton and RVD shook hands with Christian. Del Rio attacked Christian from behind and stood tall as SmackDown went off air.
