Analysis
Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose added another bout to their collection of previous performances, and just like the past contests, this match was very entertaining. Wyatt picked up the clean victory as he builds momentum towards his feud with Reigns. Ambrose however still finds himself without a clear defined feud for Battleground. Ambrose appears to be stuck in limbo as he either continues his feud with Rollins while Lesnar is away or randomly appears to offer Reigns help in his feud with Wyatt. Hopefully WWE has a plan in store for the extremely talented Ambrose heading into Summerslam.
Mark Henry was once again used as a jobber in the Ryback/Show/Miz feud. On Raw he was a face and lost to Big Show in less than two minutes. This time he worked as a heel, taking a pinfall loss to Ryback. So don’t be surprised if he appears on Raw as a face again to lose against The Miz.
Nikki Bella has held the divas championship far too long and desperately needs to lose it as soon as possible. When Naomi turned heel, her future seemed bright as she flourished in the new role, and her first divas title reign seemed imminent. Instead, WWE has now chosen to bury her, in favour of keeping the entire spotlight on The Bella Twins and Paige. Hopefully some new NXT talent, potentially Charlotte, debuts very soon and swiftly take the title away from Nikki because her reign had grown stale a long time ago.
Primetime Players picked up a win over The Ascension which should help increase their credibility as tag team champions.
The pairing of Rusev/Summer Rae now appears to be permanent for the time being as they build towards a feud with Ziggler/Lana. If Rusev’s ankle is healed in time, it’s likely that we could see a mixed tag team match at Summerslam with Dolph Ziggler & Lana taking on Rusev and Summer Rae.
Seth Rollins gained some good heel heat as he, along with J&J, ambushed Reigns. However Ambrose interfered and the babyfaces ultimately got the upper hand. However Rollins escaped, allowing him to maintain credibility, while Mercury took the beat down to send the fans home happy.
Overall, this week’s episode of Smackdown doesn’t look extremely interesting. However the Dean Ambrose v Bray Wyatt is sure to be amazing and will definitely be worth a watch.
