WWE Superstar Trick Williams recently put his NXT Championship on the line at NXT Heatwave in a Fatal Four-Way match against Shawn Spears, Ethan Page, and Je'Von Evans. The closing moments of the bout was something fans didn't expect to see tonight.
In a chaotic finish to the bout, Ethan Page, though knocked out, was in the right place at the right time, and shockingly secured the win to become the new NXT Champion just six weeks after his debut. However, a tease at the end of the show suggests this reign may not last very long and Joe Hendry may be the one to dethrone him on the upcoming episode of WWE NXT.
Heatwave concluded with Ethan Page standing tall with the gold, but the closing shot surprisingly included a glimpse of Joe Hendry. The popular TNA star has already made an appearance on the develomental brand a few weeks ago, and all signs indicate that WWE has something planned for the upcoming episode of NXT, potentially with Hendry coming out to challenge the new champion, Ethan Page.
Joe Hendry wants to emulate WWE legend
Joe Hendry has seen a meteoric rise in his popularity over the last few months and has undoubtedly become one of the top stars for TNA Wrestling.
In a recent interview, Hendry mentioned that John Cena was someone he looked up to and learned from. He resonated with Cena's comments about being a champion without the belt and said he is trying to embody that spirit for TNA.
"John Cena is the person I pull from the most in what I am trying to do here. He was talking about his loss at the previous Wrestlemania, and John Cena said, 'Be the champion without the belt.’ When I really think about what it takes to be a top talent, there's a different type of learning that has to occur. My goal is to be someone that when TNA puts me on the poster and says Joe Hendry is gonna be here, something happens. And that's what I am trying to learn how to do right now," he said.
With John Cena recently announcing that his farewell tour will take place in 2025 before he eventually hangs up his boots, it will be interesting to see if fans get an on-screen interaction between the 16-time world champion and Joe Hendry down the line.
