After producing a rather disappointing Super ShowDown PPV earlier this month, WWE will be looking to get back into the groove by producing an entertaining show this Sunday. WWE Stomping Grounds PPV will be aired on WWE network, emanating from Tacoma Dome, Tacoma, Washington, United States.
The match card mostly consists of a string of rematches from the Super ShowDown PPV. Seth Rollins will defend his Universal Championship against Baron Corbin. The duo has already faced each other at Super ShowDown. Seth Rollins won that match and successfully defended his title.
But Baron Corbin found a way to gain another Universal Championship match against Seth Rollins. Additionally, this time Corbin has the opportunity to select the match referee of his choice. He did select a few guys on the most recent edition of Monday Night RAW but Seth Rollins viciously attacked them with a chair. Rollins declared that whoever sides with Corbin and becomes the referee will suffer the same fate. Elias, ECIII, Eric Young, and B team are some of the superstars who have faced the wrath of Seth Rollins this week on television.
It will be interesting to see who will be chosen by Baron Corbin as all the previously selected superstars backed off. Corbin might select a superstar who does not get intimidated by the current Universal Champion or the one who has unsettled business with Seth Rollins.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Now let us look at 3 superstars who could be the special guest referee for Universal Championship match:
#3 Kevin Owens
Former Universal Champion, Kevin Owens might be the perfect option for Baron Corbin as Owens and his friend Sami Zayn were attacked by Seth Rollins in the recent past. On the latest episode of RAW Owens did deliver a superkick and later abandoned Baron Corbin during the main event.
But that does not mean both the heels will become enemies. They might reunite at Stomping Grounds PPV to take down a common enemy, Seth Rollins in this case. Corbin might use his negotiation skills and convince Kevin Owens to be the referee to gain an advantage.
#2 Bray Wyatt
Bray Wyatt has been entertaining the WWE universe with his pre-recorded Firefly Fun House segments on RAW and SmackDown since Wrestlemania 35. He is yet to make his in-ring return after his character transformation. WWE universe definitely does not want another Baron Corbin vs Seth Rollins Universal Championship match after this Sunday.
So WWE might book the returning Bray Wyatt as the referee to plant the seeds for a fresh Universal Championship feud for Rollins. A rejuvenated Bray Wyatt's fun-filled antics as the referee will definitely add some interest to the otherwise regular championship match.
#1 Brock Lesnar
This may seem far fetched as Lesnar generally does not appear on B shows let alone as a guest referee. But Brock Lesnar's recent track record proves that he can surprise WWE universe at any point in time. Also, Brock Lesnar was on the receiving end of several brutal chair shots from Seth Rollins at Super ShowDown PPV.
So Beast Incarnate will be eagerly waiting to exact revenge on the Universal Champion. Brock Lesnar as the special guest referee will be the best possible option for WWE right now. It will make the contest intriguing and increases the uncertainty about the result of the match as Brock still holds the MITB contract.
