WWE Stomping Grounds is going to happen on June 23. In this event, Seth Rollins is going to defend his Universal Championship against Baron Corbin. This week on Raw, WWE revealed that Corbin would have a special guest referee of his own choice during his match against Rollins. Since the referee will likely be biased towards Corbin, it’s possible that he will end up beating Seth Rollins and become the new Universal Champion.
However, fans know that his loss against Corbin could increase tension in WWE and it is something Vince McMahon would want to avoid. Here are five reasons why he won’t let Baron Corbin win the Universal Championship at Stomping Grounds.
#5 Brock Lesnar will cash-in his briefcase on Seth Rollins only
After takings multiple beatings at the hands of Rollins, its unlikely Lesnar would want to cash in on any other WWE Superstar. The Architect defeated The Beast at WrestleMania 35 and since then, he is enjoying his Universal Championship reign.
On last Raw, Paul Heyman told the fans that Lesnar is no longer going to pre-announce his Money in the Bank cash-in. It makes sense though. He could have beat Seth Rollins in Saudi Arabia, but since The Beastslayer knew Lesnar is going to show up he was prepared. A low blow is what it took to prevent the cash-in from happening.
If Corbin wins, the Universal Championship saga that Lesnar’s cash-in is would flop because it doesn’t make sense. Corbin isn’t Lesnar's rival, but Rollins is. If the cash-in is going to happen, (whenever it will) it should happen on Rollins only. After all, this is how Lesnar would take his revenge from Rollins, who mercilessly attacked him with steel chairs.
#4 Fan backlash
Baron Corbin is one of the most hated WWE Superstars right now. One could argue that it’s his work that is making us boo him, or Vince McMahon is just too invested in him that he is giving Corbin a ton of television time.
Now, WWE can’t afford to enrage the fans. They are forced to listen to us and do things accordingly. If WWE doesn’t fulfill our demands then many fans could start watching AEW instead. To be honest, WWE shouldn’t repeat what WCW did in 2000.
They have great talents and an audience who is hungry for quality content. Seth Rollins is the biggest face Superstar of Raw and it obvious that fans wouldn’t appreciate the decision of him losing to Corbin. Maybe, Vince wants us to be happy and it could be why he may hand another successful title defense to Rollins.
#3 Seth Rollins would start a new rivalry soon, where he could end up losing his Universal Championship
It seems like Vince McMahon is a fan of Drew McIntyre. He is the most protected heel Superstar (after Brock Lesnar) who seldom loses clean. A rumor said that Vince wanted Braun Strowman to win the Universal Title at Crown Jewel and then lose it to McIntyre at WrestleMania 35.
However, due to multiple reasons, the alleged match didn’t happen. Otherwise, The Scottish Psychopath would have won his first singles main roster title since his return. If the CEO of WWE still wants McIntyre to have a Universal Championship reign, then he could plan to do a Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre rivalry.
As of now, both Superstars are busy with their storylines but once they are free, WWE could start a rivalry between the two. If that’s going to happen then Corbin would have to wait before he finally wins the championship gold.
#2 WWE wants Seth Rollins to have a lengthy title reign
Brock Lesnar was WWE’s Universal Champion for over 500 days. Due to his part-time schedule, fans almost forgot about this title. But Seth Rollins’ victory has changed everything.
He won the Royal Rumble 2019 and wasted no time challenging The Beast for the title. The odds were against him but still, he beat Lesnar, thanks to the low blow. However, it doesn’t matter to the fans. They wanted a new full-time Universal Champion and they got it. They don’t care whether Rollins won it clean or not.
So far, things are looking great for The Architect as he continues reigning as WWE’s biggest champion. There must be a reason that WWE chose him to beat Lesnar for the title and considering that, it makes sense to let him have a lengthy title reign rather than a short one.
#1 The match’s special guest referee could turn against Baron Corbin
In wrestling, everything is fair game. Everyone is competing with others. All of them want to be the face of WWE. They want to get that championship belt on their shoulder. Baron Corbin has an advantage over Seth Rollins. He can choose a referee of his own during his match at Stomping Grounds.
As of writing, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are likely Superstars who could play this role. And Corbin is hoping that the undetermined special guest referee would help him win against The Beastslayer. But what if it didn’t? It’s possible. Corbin is going to rely on his friend to help him win but intentionally (or unintentionally); he could cost him the match. Alternatively, he could try to help him, but Roman Reigns might come to save his friend from them.
