WWE SummerSlam: 5 Botches you probably missed

There were a number of botches last night at SummerSlam
There were a number of botches last night at SummerSlam

WWE was under a lot of pressure following recent AEW surprises when they presented SummerSlam live from The Allegiant Stadium last night.

The show was pushed as the biggest show of the year since the company was finally able to present its product in front of a capacity crowd. The show included several returns and a number of surprises that kept the WWE Universe on its toes throughout.

Becky Lynch and Brock Lesnar are finally back. There were also four new Champions crowned with the RAW Tag Team Championships, RAW Women's Championship, SmackDown Women's Championship and the United States Championship all changing hands.

Whilst the show will be seen as a success overall, there were several botches that may have passed under the radar.

#5. Tiffany Haddish botches twice whilst congratulating Damian Priest on his win at SummerSlam

Damian Priest made history last night at SummerSlam when he defeated Sheamus. In doing so, he became the first Puerto Rican Superstar in WWE history to win the United States Championship.

Priest was able to pick up the win with Hit The Lights, after fighting his way out of the Figure Four Leg Lock, by using Sheamus' facial injury against him.

Following Priest's victory, he headed backstage to be interviewed by Tiffany Haddish. The guest interviewer then went on to botch twice in her promo when she made the mistake of calling it "The SummerSlam". She then called Priest's new Championship "The National Championship" rather than the United States Championship.

Members of the broadcast team often make mistakes. This happens regularly in WWE, with Michael Cole often being pulled up for some of the bigger errors since he's in a lead commentary position.

Haddish is a newcomer to this position in the WWE world. She could have been overcome with nerves last night at SummerSlam which is why she made so many mistakes in a simple interview.

Priest seemingly wasn't phased by the interviewer's mistakes. Haddish doesn't come from a wrestling background. The comedian could be forgiven for her errors but perhaps next time she should be part of a pre-recorded segment instead.

#4. Omos almost drops AJ Styles on his head at SummerSlam

AJ Styles and Omos defended their RAW Tag Team Championships at SummerSlam last night and were defeated by RK-Bro.

Riddle and Randy Orton walked out of The Allegiant Stadium with the Championships after The Viper was able to pin Styles following an RKO.

This wasn't the worst part of Styles' night. The former WWE Champion was almost dropped by his own partner much earlier in the match when the two men attempted a tag team move.

Styles tagged in and then jumped to Omos to perform the move. It appeared as though the former RAW Underground star had forgotten that he had to catch AJ.

Luckily, Omos was able to correct the move and ultimately catch the former Champion. Sadly, this wasn't enough for the RAW Tag Team Champions to retain their Championships at SummerSlam.

The one blessing here is the fact that Omos has remained unpinned since his in-ring debut back in April, it was Styles who took the pin to lose the Championships for the duo.

#3. Damian Priest lands awkwardly following a move over the top rope at SummerSlam

Damian Priest won the United States Championship last night at SummerSlam following Hit The Lights. This was delivered after Priest had already managed to injure himself.

Midway through the match, Sheamus was on the outside of the ring and Priest flipped over the ropes before landing awkwardly on his tail bone. He was able to make contact with Sheamus when he delivered the move, but it was obvious that he hurt himself more than his opponent.

Priest held his back and sold the injury for the rest of the match. The replays made it apparent that this wasn't the landing that the former North American Champion had planned.

Despite obviously struggling throughout the match, Priest was able to make it to the end and deliver Hit The Lights to Sheamus after he had ripped off his protective face mask. Despite the pain he was in, Priest managed to complete his first SummerSlam match successfully.

The United States Championship is Damian Priest's first title win since joining the main roster earlier this year.

#2. The RAW Women's Championship match was a botchy affair at SummerSlam

Nikki A.S.H. defended her RAW Women's Championship against both Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair in a triple threat match at SummerSlam.

Charlotte Flair was able to reclaim the Championship from A.S.H. when the Almost Superhero tapped to the Figure 8. Whilst the match itself played to all three of the women's strengths, there were still a number of botchy moments.

There was a delay on a slam from Charlotte when Ripley wasn't in position, as well as a few botchy moments from the RAW Women's Champion.

Charlotte Flair even delivered a Corkscrew Moonsault which had a rough landing when she crushed Nikki's head between herself and the barricade.

These three women are seen as the best of the best on Monday Night RAW. While this was easily proven last night at SummerSlam, the match needed to be a little more ironed out.

It's also a surprise that Flair was able to win back the Championship from A.S.H. at the first attempt.

#1. What was happening in the match between Goldberg and Bobby Lashley at SummerSlam?

Goldberg returned for the first time since The Royal Rumble to challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam.

The WWE Hall of Famer had quite a rough night from missing his traditional pyro to then being part of a number of botches.

Goldberg famously was part of a match against The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia which saw him busted open on a ring post. The former Universal Champion almost suffered the same fate again at SummerSlam.

There was one moment where Goldberg even landed on his head from what looked like an intended spear.

One of the most obvious botches came when MVP was forced to hit Goldberg with his cane and this was drastically undersold by the star. Goldberg also threw Bobby Lashley right by the turnbuckles and the star then landed on his head.

The match was later ended by the referee due to injury and it appears as though a rematch has been set up.
