With the latest episode of SmackDown Live in the books, the WWE universe has no more stops ahead of Survivor Series. The 900th episode of SmackDown did a great job of hyping the show, and the return of Undertaker and Edge proved to be cherries on the top.
To roundup, the buildup from WWE’s side has been solid and now, it will be up to them to deliver on Sunday night.
And due to the nature of the matches that are booked for Survivor Series, WWE has more than enough opportunity to pull off a surprise or two. Least expected booking decisions have always managed to make the fans happy, and Survivor Series has a long legacy of the same.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
In this slider, we are going to list down some of those twists that could happen at Survivor Series.
#7 Dolph Ziggler gets a spot in the Intercontinental title match
The latest episode of SmackDown saw a shocking move from WWE. They made Dolph Ziggler drop the Intercontinental Championship to The Miz, and now, Miz will go on to face Sami Zayn at Survivor Series. The fans were hyped about the prospect of seeing Zayn and Ziggler in a match, but now those expectations mean nothing.
But WWE could make a major improvement on the storyline if they turn the match into a Triple Threat and add Ziggler. Ziggler still has a title rematch clause in his hand so the addition would make sense as well.
The only problem would be the Raw vs. SmackDown subplot. Zayn will be outnumbered by SmackDown superstars but if WWE is planning to make him the champion, then being outnumbered improves the underdog appeal.
#6 Braun Strowman rejoins with the Wyatt Family
When WWE had the segment on Monday Night Raw, where Team Raw and Team SmackDown faced off, there was a snippet in which Bray Wyatt, spoke to Braun Strowman. Bray mentioned the relationship that they had in the past, and it could be WWE’s idea of foreshadowing a possible reunion.
The Wyatt Family has a newfound energy these days due to the addition of Randy Orton and one more monster on their side, would make them much more relevant. Strowman as a singles star has shown improvements, but being under Bray once more is perhaps what he needs right now.
Braun could be groomed on SmackDown, and when WWE wants to split him up, they could let him feud with Orton and put him over.
5: Shield reunion
A shield reunion is something that all of us want to see. When Seth Rollins was announced as the final member of Team Raw, the possibility of seeing all three members of the Shield coming together was the first thing that poked up.
Dean Ambrose being on Team SmackDown is the biggest hurdle in this one, but if WWE could find a way around it, the fans are going to mark out.
The ideal situation here would be a combined attack on Luke Harper. Harper is bound to be ringside for the match and as Ambrose has nothing to do with him, it would hurt no one if Reigns, Rollins and Ambrose deliver a Triple power bomb to Harper and give the fans what they want.
#4 Best friends breakup
The friendship between Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens is a major subplot, heading into Survivor Series. The duo has been together for a long time now, and there are even rumours which suggest that they could feud soon. So why not make it happen at Survivor Series?
Owen and Jericho had earlier announced themselves as the co-captains of Team Raw, and this could be a good enough reason to spark the friction. In the middle of their traditional match with Team SmackDown, either Owens or Jericho could turn on each other, thus resulting in the downfall of Team Raw.
A feud Owens and Jericho must happen before Jericho leaves for his Fozzy tour and at the same time, its way better than the rumoured Owens vs. Roman Reigns showdown.
#3 Baron Corbin helps out Team Raw
The exclusion of Baron Corbin from Team SmackDown came as a shock to many fans. Shane McMahon was chosen as a replacement for Corbin, and though it adds hype to the match, Corbin’s journey to the main event scene, took a huge toll due to this. And without not many main event stars on SmackDown, Corbin was crucial as well.
Now, the best way for WWE to introduce Corbin as a main event star would be to make him help Team Raw. He could be frustrated by the fact that he was replaced by Shane and claim that his injury was a minor one.
Corbin could then help Raw by taking out Shane, during the match, which in turn could set up a Shane McMahon vs. Baron Corbin match for Royal Rumble or TLC.
2 Undertaker sets his sight on his WrestleMania opponent
The Undertaker’s entrance sent chills down my spine when he returned to SmackDown. The Phenom noted that WrestleMania is not what defines him now and also said that he is back. While it would be a long shot to see Undertaker week in and week out on SmackDown, he could make an appearance at Survivor Series and set up a match for WrestleMania.
While Undertaker getting involved in the Team Raw vs. Team SmackDown match would give him a heel shade, Taker could show up after the match. He could draw battle lines with anyone from Dean Ambrose to Randy Orton.
Another possibility is Undertaker showing up after Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg and challenging Goldberg for a match at WrestleMania. Either way, the presence of Taker would be good for Survivor Series.
1: Team NXT invades
Survivor Series is all about brand superiority. SmackDown and Raw will go head to head in three separate matches to know which brand is the best. One thing that WWE and the fans have overlooked is NXT. NXT might still be a developmental territory according to the papers, but it’s a brand that has some huge fanfare.
When the teams from Raw and SmackDown battle it out at Survivor Series, imagine the possibility of NXT superstars coming down and taking everyone out. Shinsuke Nakamura, Samoa Joe, and Eric Young are just some of the names that could show up.
The WWE vs. NXT war could be a great way to set up NXT as the third brand in the company, and it would also ease up the involvement of NXT stars at Royal Rumble.
These are just some twists that could happen and there are a string of other possibilities as well. What would you like to see on Sunday night? Sound off in the comments section.
