WWE posted the Top 10 WWE Championship wins video in this week’s WWE Top 10 videos. The video had a lot of great moments, such as John Cena winning his first title, Eddie Gurrero’s first title win, and Stone Cold beating Shawn Michaels for the title making it to the top of the list.
Here’s the video:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Though the videos WWE makes are at most times commendable, this particular video seemed a bit too rushed and needed better compiling. There were a few matches that should have made the list solely based on the circumstances with which the title changes took place. Let us try and look at the title changes that should have made it to the top 10 of the list.
1. Royal Rumble 1992- Ric Flair wins the Championship
This was the only time in WWE history when a Royal Rumble winner was directly given the WWE title. Ric Flair made his entry early into the match at No.3, and withstood great wrestlers like Undertaker, Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage, who were clearly the favourites in the match.
Here’s Flair’s promo after winning the title, which is by far one of the best promos by The Nature Boy.
2. One Night Stand 2006- RVD vs John Cena
There is no way that this title change can be excluded from a top ten list, and I’m not sure how this went unnoticed. John Cena faced the worst hostility of his career as WWE Champion in the heart of ECW, The Hammerstein Ballroom. It would have been a disaster for Cena to have come out victorious in this match, and despite some outside interference, RVD managed to take the title off Cena, which would have shocked all of Cenation back then. RVD was the only person to hold both the ECW and the WWE title at the same time, giving this title change a unique distinction from the others.
3. New Year’s Revolution 2006- Edge vs John Cena
This was Edge’s first ever WWE title and the first time the Money in the Bank briefcase was cashed in. The moment showed just how valuable the MITB case is and how it can bring about great surprise moments like this. Edge ended Cena’s visibly boring reign back then and was frankly a moment that should have made its way to the list.
4. Vengeance 2001- Chris Jericho vs Stone Cold
It doesn’t matter how many times you win a WWE or World Heavyweight title when you compare it to this one moment in WWE history. This champion vs champion match saw Jericho beat Stone Cold to win the then WWF title to become the first undisputed champion of the world.
