Intercontinental Championship issecond mostprestigious championship in WWE currently. It has a good amount of history attached. Famous names like Chris Jericho,Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple Hand Rob Van Dam have held the championship.Off late, the championshiphas been generally used to develop the undercard and promote upcoming talent. A well built feud can however add more relevancy to the title and can thus help both the champion and the challenger in establishing themselves.Currently,Bad News Barrettholds the Intercontinental Championship. He defeated Big E for the championship at Extreme Rules. He had earlier qualified as the number one contender after some very impressive showing in the tournament preceding the Extreme Rules.Given the potential that Barrett has and the talent that the roster currently has, theWWE creative team canbook a goodfeud for Barrett for this post WrestleMania period. Here I would present 5 wrestlerswho may well challenge Big E for the title.
#5 Cesaro
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Cesaro has been pushed mightily, more than anyone else not named Reigns. The former United States Champion, has the goods and is set to deliver. It is only a matter of time before he evolves further. A feud with Barrett may well be on the lines. It would certainly be interesting to see two top talents collide.
Cesaro has been over with the crowd and has a great set of skills. Having him win the championship would do wonders for the prestige of the title and it would be great for Cesaro.
#4 Fandango
Fandango is a guy who clearly needs some direction within WWE. He's a guy the crowd clearly likes, and his theme tune has gained something of a cult status amongst fans. However, his sporadic appearances on TV just don't seem to be enough.
Why not turn the guy and have him start a rivalry with Barrett? It's not like it would be exactly hard to make him suddenly likeable to the crowd; they already love him.
It would also give him a big push and hopefully get him on TV a lot more, as well as pay-per-views. It just feels like all the hype and effort that went into Fandango's arrival is being wasted; a run with the Intercontinental title would go some way to correcting that.
#3 Kofi Kingston
If you're looking for a guy who could put some credibility back into the Intercontinental Championship, then Kofi Kingston could well be your man.
He's held this title before and has put some pretty solid matches into his title reigns along the way. His unique wrestling style would make him a great opponent for Barrett; it would almost be like pitting two completely different styles against each other—the brawler and the flier.
Is there a downside to Kingston potentially picking up the strap? Well, he is a guy who seems to be forever condemned to the midcard.
#2 Rey Mysterio
Like Kingston, Rey would provide a unique style of wrestling that would certainly counter the style of Barrett, which generally makes for some brilliant matches.
A return to the main event so soon seems unlikely—it is more than crowded enough already without placing Mysterio back in there without any purpose. Unfortunately for Mysterio fans, the midcard seems his most obvious destination.
However, he would reignite the midcard and the title division in it.
The biggest little Man of the WWE would certainly make up some very entertaining television if he does happen to have a feud with Wade Barrett.
#1 Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho is a legend. Period. He is a nine time Intercontinental Champion, he has won it more than anyone else in the Industry. If he does return, a feud with Barrett would be pure gold. Both in terms of in ring matches and promos on the mic. Booking Jericho for the Intercontinental title would be easier as well.
Last year at WrestleMania, Jericho put over Fandango who was on debut. He did well to make Fandango look strong and that even started the Fandangoing thing. This year, he may well do the same and put over Barret or win the title the record 10th time. Either ways, it would be a must see match.
