The Bulgarian Brute, the Super Athlete, Alexander Rusev sure looks set for big things in the coming months. Escorted to the ring by the Ravishing Russian Lana, Rusev has crushed each and every opponent who has come before him till now. He looks set for big things and his recent outings do indicate that he may well be the monster heel of the WWE.Rusev is 60, 305 pounds. He is athletic and agile, and can pull off some interesting kicks and moves. Moreover, Rusev also fits a larger than life character like Umaga or Viscera. Even Batista debuted as a bodyguard who had the muscle power flowing. Rusev can be very intimidating and can easily get over with the crowd through his raw strength and wrestling skills.Rusev may even blossom on the Main event scene. But for that he would need a top quality storyline and some genuine booking. The current booking does go a long way in making his career, only that such booking needs to continue with some more quality opponents being added into the mix. Here we look at five possible opponents for Rusev.
#5 Wade Barrett
Wade Barrett could become a great challenger for Rusev. Forget the fact that they are both operating as heels within the company—that really doesn't matter anymore. The crowd is more accustomed to preferring one man over another, regardless of their status.
It would be a nice way to ease his return into Wrestling in ring after a Bad news Barrett gimmick which was very interesting to say the least.
They are also both excellent wrestlers technically, setting up some superb matches down the line.
#4 Alberto Del Rio
The Mexican Aristocrat, ADR has been in the middle of nowhere, for most part of this year. He has not been relevant since his last World Heavyweight Championship reign, back last year. The very talented and sound in ring champ, Del Rio is sure to make most of any opportunity which he might get.
Del Rio is an established star and one of the most pushed names in the past years. Him not being given enough time on major shows, should be aboided at all costs. And a good way to use him might be through a well developed feud with Alexander Rusev.
#3 Dolph Ziggler
Dolph Ziggler is probably one of the most popular athletes on the roster. He has been the darling of the fans for quite some while. His in ring style is exemplary and he sells all his opponent's moves with some talent. He has charisma as well.
His way of wrestling and the way he sells his moves can help Rusev develop a lot. The phase which these wrestlers go through is one which really builds their impression in the fans’ minds. Therefore a talent like Ziggler can help Rusev really blossom.
#2 Jack Swagger
The Real American should really be the one who goes against the Anti American Rusev and Lana. While Lana continuosly hurts American sentiments, Zeb goes against immigrants. A rivalry between Lana and uncle Zeb would also be one to look out for.
Moreover, Swagger is a former world champion and has been tremendous in the ring. Therefore a feud with Rusev would help build Rusev’s character. Swagger has also not been doing much after his rivalry with Cesaro more or less ended at Extreme Rules and the rivalry with Adam Rose yet to set the stage on fire.
#1 Big E
Big E has the build which generally fans as well as the creative team sees in such high regard, For the build he has, he is incredibly athletic and can put up some great wreslting moves. Add to that a cool finisher and Big E already has a lot of positives. What's more, he can hold his own on the microphone. A lot of this goes for Rusev as well. And therefore, they do have things in common.
However, after his initial push to the intercontinental championship, Big E has not had regular matches or feuds until recently when he fought Rusev. A prolonged feud can only help the two out and would make for some good matches as well.
