WWE: Top 5 Rumors of the week and analysis: 22 May, 2016

Cena to win US title?

It’s a busy weekend for the wrestling fans out there thanks to Extreme Rules. The show comes along with a lot of expectations and WWE is tagged with the task of delivering the goods. But all this hassle did not stop the Internet from coming up with rumors which had no relation to Extreme Rules. The rumor mill was busy talking about SummerSlam, returns, and some other WWE plans.

WWE is apparently planning some huge matches for SummerSlam this year and at the same time, they do have some interesting plans for the return of Seth Rollins. Here is a detailed look at all the top rumors and their potential impact on the WWE product.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

Seth Rollins to return as a heel

Returning as a heel

The return of Seth Rollins is going to be triumphant. The Architect has been out of action for few months now and when he returns, he will clearly get a hero’s welcome from the WWE Universe. While it would be sensible to book Rollins as a babyface upon his return due to this reaction, WWE has other plans in place.

The company apparently wants Rollins to be a full blown heel upon his return. it is not clear on the angle that WWE wants to pull off with Rollins but he might go back to the Authority angle that he was indulged in before getting injured during a live event.

John Cena to win the United States Championship on return

What will he do?

John Cena’s return date is confirmed and the only question that everyone has is regarding his creative direction. There are some rumors around the Internet which suggest a Cena vs. Roman Reigns feud upon Cena’s return but it might have to wait until SummerSlam. Another rumor, which is more believable, sees Cena winning the United States Championship.

Cena could answer the open challenge issued by the united States champion and then go on to win the championship. Rusev will be facing Kalisto for the championship at Extreme Rules, so Rusev being the champion in time for Cena’s return are high.

Reason why Stephanie McMahon is playing babyface

Lined up for a take over

Stephanie McMahon has apparently dropped her heelish gimmick for the time being and this is due to her new book that is coming out. WWE wants Stephanie to play a good girl image for now as they are planning to make her the new face of the company. The book, which will be released, is designed specifically for this purpose.

WWE wants Stephanie to be in a place to take over Vince McMahon once Vince retires and we could expect Stephanie doing more babyface things for the same. This, however, leaves a big doubt regarding the rumored brand split which the fans badly wanted to see.

Plans for Neville, Big Cass, and Dana Brooke

IC title awaits?

Neville is expected to return to the WWE programming soon and he would be injected into the Intercontinental championship scene upon his return. This was actually the plan for him before he was taken out of action and WWE has not changed the same despite the absence. As for Big Cass, WWE is keen on him and Dana Brooke right now.

Both of them could get a solid push in the coming months while the future of Apollo Crews is in the balance. He is dropping into irrelevance after a good debut and could not recover anytime soon. Baron Corbin is expected to travel in the same path, but he does have some backers in WWE.

Huge matches planned for SummerSlam

huge match

WWE could go with all cylinders blazing for SummerSlam this year. They are planning some huge matches for the show and the most prominent one that poked up in the rumor mill was Roman Reigns vs. John Cena. Vince McMahon apparently believes that Reigns needs big stars to put him over and Cena fits right into that description.

Meanwhile, another match being planned for the show is Bray Wyatt vs. Brock Lesnar. If we look back, Bray and Brock had some friction from Royal Rumble itself and it was unsolved due to the Brock vs. Ambrose feud that time. If these are indeed the plan, then SummerSlam is going to be huge for sure.
