WWE Top Five Rumors of the week and analysis: 14 August, 2016

Conor has found his place in the WWE rumor mill

The professional wrestling rumor mill on the internet had its share of interesting rumors this past week. We stepped one week closer to SummerSlam, but surprisingly, SummerSlam was not that captured the attention this time around. Instead, the internet was busy talking about the main roster call-ups that WWE could pull off in the near future.

There were also talks about the plans WWE had for Shelton Benjamin and the plans they have for Brock Lesnar. Conor McGregor and his rant about professional wrestlers proved to be the root of some discussion as well. In this list, we are going to take a look at the top rumors and their potential impact.

Shinsuke Nakamura to get a main roster call up soon

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

Call up to happen sooner

Earlier, it was rumored that Shinsuke Nakamura’s main roster call up would be delayed. However, recent rumors suggest that it would be happening sooner. Nakamura has been one of the strongly booked wrestlers in the whole WWE roster as he is yet to take a clean loss in matches including those in live events.

Elsewhere, Roderick Strong has cleared medically by the WWE and he could show up in the NXT shows soon. Zack Sabre Jr, on the other hand, is not apparently signing a contract with WWE as of now. There are still things that need to be ironed out and WWE is pursuing him strongly.

Plans WWE had for Shelton Benjamin

WWE had some interesting plans for him

Shelton Benjamin’s WWE return was put on hold due to injury. It was disappointing news for the fans and apparently, WWE had some big plans for the former United States Champion. Shelton was supposed to feud for the Intercontinental championship upon his return to SmackDown. Also, WWE had apparently contacted Charlie Haas about a potential return to WWE so that they could reunite the World’s greatest tag team.

Now that Shelton is out due to injury, it would be interesting to see whether WWE rollbacks these plans or they would simply delay it. Nevertheless, the return is set to happen which is a positive from the whole situation.

Lesnar to get a title shot next year

Lesnar to get title shot next year

Brock Lesnar recently came under some bad spotlight due to the USADA bust. However, WWE is not hesitating to push The Beast. Lesnar still got a strong booking when he showed up recently on Raw and SmackDown. WWE is not planning to give him any less in 2017 as well. The current plan for Lesnar in 2017 is to run for the WWE Universal championship.

Vince McMahon wants to make the maximum out of Lesnar’s contract and having him in the title scene is expected to be an idea for the same. Despite this, WWE might let Orton defeat Lesnar at SummerSlam as they are happy with the reactions that Orton is getting as a babyface.

Big push planned for New Day member

Big E to get singles push

WWE is apparently set to leave Big E out of SummerSlam in order to sell the Groin injury angle. According to the rumors, this is the start of New Day’s split as WWE wants to push Big E as a singles superstar. By letting Big E skip SummerSlam, WWE could let New Day drop the title and claim that he never dropped the tag team championships.

Big E getting his singles push was going to come sooner or later. But it would be surprising to see it happen just after SummerSlam since WWE recently released the Booty-O’s cereal. They still could make some money with the cereal by keeping the trio together so this rumor might just have to wait for a bit longer to materialize.

Conor McGregor situation

Conor is simply playing with WWE

Conor McGregor held nothing back when expressing his emotions about professional wrestlers. Although Conor holds some wrestlers with high regard, he categorized the remaining in an unflattering manner. One wrestler in particular that got tangled in the controversy was John Cena. McGregor went on to call Cena a ‘failed Mr. Olympia’ and caused an outrage in the process.

Though some are suggesting that all of this is a work, the Observer claims that Conor is not setting up his future WWE appearance. However, WWE might have some plans with the situation and the reactions that their superstars gave might be a sign of this. There is also a speculation that Conor’s comment burned some bridges between UFC and WWE.
