The last seven days proved to be a busy one for the rumor mill. While Survivor Series was on the Horizon, surprisingly, most of the major rumors of this past week had other points of interest. Returns, cross-over athletes, plans for WrestleMania and many other things made the rounds along with incidents throughout the past few days to fuel these rumors.
WWE’s urge to improve their Cruiserweight division was another major talking point. As with every week, we are going to list down the most relevant rumors from the week that went by and dissect them to analyze how they could impact the WWE programming.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5. Goldberg is being considered as a WrestleMania opponent for Undertaker
Undertaker’s WrestleMania opponent is a talking point every year. For the past few weeks, the internet has been buzzing about the same with names such as Randy Orton and John Cena being added to the mix. The latest addition to this list is Goldberg.
It was earlier noted that WWE is interested in having Goldberg at WrestleMania due to the massive reaction that he got for his return, but a discussion about his opponent wasn’t started.
WrestleMania 33 is expected to be Undertaker’s last appearance as a wrestler and Goldberg being the last man to face the Phenom might not get a positive response from the fans. Sting was another name that came up last week but apparently, it’s tougher than pulling off a Goldberg vs. Undertaker match.
#4. LeBron James linked with an appearance in WWE
Miesha Tate looks like a possible acquisition for WWE but another wild rumor that came up last week involves a bigger star. LeBron James recently made it to wrestling headlines for not meeting the Undertaker, and rumors suggest that WWE could be banking in on the situation by letting LeBron appear on SmackDown.
Some rumors even suggest that LeBron could be wrestling Undertaker. Such a thing, however, is very hard to swallow despite LeBron being a big star. However, if WWE manages to bring him in for a small appearance on SmackDown, the ratings will be impacted heavily for sure. But then again, the chances are quite low.
#3. Wade Barrett and Boogeyman could return
Wade Barrett has been linked with a return to the WWE as rumors are suggesting that the company contacted him about a potential return. The speculation found momentum after WWE released the trailer of their film ‘Eliminators’ which stars Barrett.
It should also be noted that Barrett had filmed the movie before his departure from WWE. There isn’t any word on whether Barrett would be looking for a comeback but the internet suggests that WWE is interested in him.
Boogeyman is another name linked with a return. He is still in good terms with WWE and apparently, he is finishing up his independent booking obligations before he could make a full-time move to WWE.
#2. WWE wants Chavo Guerrero for Cruiserweight division
The Cruiserweight division of WWE has been going through a tough phase. The relaunch of the division had captured the imagination of WWE fans, but the lack of proper booking and known names have left the division in ruins. WWE is trying hard to fix this, and the announcement of 205 Live was an indication.
The latest rumors suggest that WWE could be bringing in Chavo Guerrero to revamp the division. Chavo, who has an impressive resume as a cruiserweight, is a name that would be easily recognizable.
Ever since his departure from WWE, Chavo has been on a solid run with some of his memorable matches coming at Lucha Underground. If WWE manages to pull this off, without many doubts, it would be a huge move for the cruiserweight project in the WWE.
#1. Miesha Tate could join WWE
Miesha Tate officially announced her retirement last night at UFC 205. Miesha lost to Racquel Pennington, and in what proved to be a shocking turn of events, she revealed that she is retiring from the sport. The retirement has sparked off a tsunami of rumors, and the latest one suggests that she could well be on her way to WWE, according to inscribemag.com
Several UFC stars have been linked with the WWE in the past, and a set of rumors also suggested the Triple H was in attendance at UFC 205 to show his interest of Conor McGregor joining the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. Though Miesha might not bring the hype of Ronda Rousey or McGregor, her addition could be enough for WWE to attract some MMA fans.
