What's the story?

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, former WWE Intercontinental Champion Bobby Lashley opened up on a myriad of topics.

Most prominently, Lashley addressed the possibility of Mixed Martial Arts icon, former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor potentially joining the WWE.

Lashley opined that while "The Notorious" Irishman joining the ranks of the WWE would most definitely be a good move, McGregor isn't likely to win a "big title" in the WWE.

In case you didn't know...

Conor McGregor is widely regarded as one of the most influential athletes of all time, and is considered to be one of the biggest box office attractions in combat sports history.

McGregor last competed at UFC 229, in a losing effort against arch rival and current UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Following his submission loss to Nurmagomedov, McGregor has been involved in a few legal disputes in his native of Ireland as well as in the US; in addition to which, the "Champ Champ" also announced his retirement from the sport of MMA.

The heart of the matter

Bobby Lashley, who recently lost his WWE Intercontinental Championship to "Demon" Finn Balor at WrestleMania 35, weighed in with his thoughts on Conor McGregor possibly joining the WWE. Lashley stated --

"I think he wants to (join the WWE), he's been talking a lot."
"Conor is one of those guys that will shoot first and then shake hands later. He did it last year when he tried to call out the wrestlers. I think he'll have a good opportunity to come over here and shake things up, run his mouth a little bit and bring some notoriety. I'd like to see him in. It would be cool."
"I think he wants to be here...If he wants to be here he might have to try and find a role. We're not going to put a big title on him, he's way too small."

Furthermore, one ought to note that talks pertaining to McGregor making the transition from the UFC Octagon to the WWE ring, are said to have received a huge impetus of sorts -- particularly considering the fact that McGregor has made both negative as well as positive comments about the new generation of WWE Superstars over the past few years.

Moreover, McGregor has consistently insinuated that he'd love to try his hand at sports-entertainment in the WWE.

What's next?

Bobby Lashley, who is a well-accomplished MMA combatant in his own right, has recently alluded that he does intend to compete in MMA again, before he finally bids adieu to the sport.

Meanwhile, Lashley's next feud in the WWE is yet to be revealed. On the other hand, the vast majority of combat sports pundits believe that Conor McGregor's retirement is merely a facade, and that the Irish KO artist is likely to compete in the UFC later this year.
