What’s the story?

In a recent interview with Entertainment.ie, 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena spoke about the transition of WWE superstars from the world of Pro Wrestling to the world of Mixed Martial Arts. Cena was also asked which wrestlers from the current WWE roster could potentially make it in the UFC.

In case you didn’t know…

Widely considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, 16-time World Champion John Cena made his WWE debut in 2002 and has been labeled as "the most polarizing Superstar ever" by veteran commentator Jim Ross, due to Cena’s character having plenty of supporters and detractors.

Cena, who has previously held 16-time World Titles in the WWE, is also a former five-time WWE United States Champion, a four-time WWE Tag Team Champion, and a two-time Royal Rumble winner as well.

The heart of the matter

During his interview with Entertainment.ie, John Cena was asked about the modern day WWE superstars who would transition well to the UFC, a question to which Cena responded in a very unconventional manner by stating that he doesn’t know the logic behind why WWE superstars would want to jump ship and compete inside the Octagon. He said:

"I guess I'm just a sucker for what we do. I mean you look at an individual like Brock [Lesnar], and I think he is really drawn to what the Octagon offers, but I more like what we do. Because I'm sitting here talking with you about a story. We tell stories in WWE, and that's what I like the most. So, I can't put myself in the shoes of like, 'I would want to go do this in the Octagon.’”

What’s next?

John Cena is now likely to compete at WrestleMania 34 — which takes place next month in New Orleans — in a match against another WWE legend, that is, The Undertaker.

Author’s take

Following CM Punk’s run in the UFC, one thing I can guarantee is the fact that Mixed Martial Arts is not everyone’s cup of tea, however, superstars like Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar, who have now been associated well with both MMA and Pro Wrestling, have already transitioned pretty well.
