The Undertaker looks to defend streak of 21-0 at WrestleMania against the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar at the 30th addition of WrestleMania in New Orleans. The phenom would have his hands full at the grandest stage of them all. Lesnar has been on a roll since winning against CM Punk at Summerslam. having destroyed Big Show and Mark henry, Lesnar has his eyes set up to break the streak.
The whole match has been set up around the point of defending the streak. Brock Lesnar has been projected to go against the dead man to make history and end the streak.
Build Up:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
While Paul Heyman has done a good enough job in building up this match, with neither Lesnar nor Undertaker having the top notch promo skills, the match would certainly outshine the build up. Ever since undertaker’s return, the phenom has had the better of Lesnar on each occasion except the last one, where Lesnar sneaked from behind and attacked. This kind of build up is strange as the Undertaker is sure to be the favorite in the match anyhow and the booking should have protected Lesnar more. Moreover, it further downplayed the earlier wins that Lesnar had against Big Show and Henry.
Maybe, WWE wanted to project Undertaker in a good light given his age and reduced speed. The build up was smooth mostly with, Heyman doing most of the talking and Lesnar and Taker teasing week in and week out about the bout. The contract signing which started off the build up was the highlight really and it created enough intrigue to make the match intriguing as it is.
Undertaker’s strengths:
Undertaker is perhaps the most respected wrestler who has ever laced his boots up. The living legend is perhaps also the most popular wrestler to take up the ring. One of the biggest attraction at this year’s event, the Undertaker is sure to have the support of each and every wrestling fan viewing the show. Every fan would cheer for him to deliver the tombstone piledriver on the beast to extend his winning streak to 22.
However, it would be interesting to see how the Undertaker responds to his critics as a lot of questions have been asked about how fit he really is. With age taking its toll, people do believe that it may be time for him to hang up his boots. However as seen in the previous WrestleManias, Undertaker do knows how to respond. His match against Punk last year was by far the best of the night. Much of the same would be expected from him.
Lesnar’s Strengths:
Lesnar is the former WWE and UFC champion. The brawler that he is, his strengths and feats are unmatched in the world of wrestling. The sheer size of this champion is intimidating and his amateur wrestling skills are intensely physical. The F5 and the cross arm breaker are very lethal and can take their toll against any wrestler on any given day.
The strength and power of Brock Lesnar would certainly challenge the talent and intrigue of the Undertaker. Whatever may be the outcome, the match should be a stand out.
Predictions:
The Undertaker would go in as the favorite to defend his streak. A Lesnar win might be the most surprising win ever in WrestleMania. However, a run in by some future opponent(Sting, may be?) can also be expected, so as to make a big match for a future PPV.
Match Consequences:
Both Lesnar and Taker should benefit from the epic encounter. Taker would look to future opponents to defend the streak, while Lesnar might be put up against top flight talent for some angle at SummerSlam. Lesnar even after the loss would not lose an iota of his intimidation while Undertaker would add on his persona and intrigue. If Sting does return, a match with Undertaker would be heavily expected.
Expected Match ratings:
8/10
