The road to WrestleMania 30 has already begun, with new superstars fighting to earn the right to be on the card of the biggest event of the calendar year in the WWE. WrestleMania is the grand daddy of entertainment, and the biggest spectacle of them all. Dubbed as ‘The showcase of the immortals’, WrestleMania is the one night when the wrestling fraternity comes together to witness magic unfold, and hold their breath as the biggest names in the industry showcase their skills and talent.
WrestleMania is the Superbowl and the World Series of professional wrestling, and the fans who have stopped watching the product come back for one night, and witness the grand spectacle. Performers consider it to be an honour to be on the card of WrestleMania, as it validates their careers, fulfilling their childhood dream.
Headlining WrestleMania is a completely different honour altogether. It isn’t just every superstar’s dream, but something that very few people get to do. Legends like Hogan, Savage and Bret Hart had the honour of main eventing WrestleMania, and headlining the event. Being in the league of such elite superstars is something that every youngster dreams about.
In about a year’s time, the WWE superstars will have the opportunity to earn the right to headline a WrestleMania yet again, as the biggest event of the year rolls out from Mercedes – Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. So who are the stars who can headline the event? Let’s get an early preview of the PPV.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
“I’m hung up on going on last, being the main event on WrestleMania. There’s all sorts of people who will tell you ‘You’re wrestling the Undertaker and maybe that’s bigger than the title, bigger than going on last and there’s a difference between the main event and the last match.’ It’s just been ingrained into me. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to be in the main event at WrestleMania.” – CM Punk
After years of not main eventing WrestleMania, CM Punk might finally get his due at WrestleMania 30. In 2011, CM Punk voiced his frustrations about WWE and their lack of faith in him, and during the now infamous promo, he said that the fact that Rock was headlining the next WrestleMania and he wasn’t ticked him off. In 2012, CM Punk did headline WrestleMania, but wasn’t in the main event, which is every superstar’s dream. Instead, Rock and Cena had the chance to close the show. In 2013, it was the same case, when Punk put on the match of the night against The Undertaker, but Cena and Rock closed the show in a below average match for the WWE title. With Rock not having any plans for next year’s WrestleMania (at least for now), CM Punk does have a realistic chance to not only headline the event, but also to close the show. It is a different case altogether if that would happen, as many things can happen from now till WrestleMania time.
Daniel Bryan
When 2013 began, WWE wanted to make this John Cena’s year. WWE wanted Cena to have the ‘redemption’ tag with him, and climb the ladder once again and become the WWE champion after nearly 2 years, and stay at the top. But as the year rolled on, it became evident that the WWE Universe wanted the year to belong to one Daniel Bryan. Daniel Bryan was always impressive with his in – ring work; after all, he is considered to be this generation’s greatest technical wrestler. But Bryan evolved into something much bigger, and became a megastar! Daniel Bryan connected with the audience, and that catapulted him as the hottest superstar in the industry! With Bryan making his way into the main event scene, he can do what CM Punk did two years ago, and cement himself as the top guy in the company.
If WWE does decide to pull the trigger with Daniel Bryan, he can become the number 3 guy in the company, behind John Cena and CM Punk. If that does happen, we needn’t be surprised if Bryan finds his way to main eventing WrestleMania next year. From losing the World championship in 18 seconds to main eventing WrestleMania will be a Cinderella story for Daniel Bryan if that does happen.
Undertaker
Next year’s WrestleMania will likely be Undertaker’s last appearance in the WWE. For the past few years, Taker has wrestled through pain and injuries, but age has caught up with the legendary phenom. With the Undertaker not being fit in time for SummerSlam, the rumour mill is spinning again about a possible retirement after next year’s WrestleMania, which is a highly possible. It will only be proper for the marquee name of WrestleMania to close the show, while also closing the final chapter in perhaps the greatest career in the business. If it does happen, WrestleMania will never be the same again, as the Undertaker has been the nucleus of the event for the past two decades.
John Cena
And last but not least, Cena is a lock to main event next year’s WrestleMania, unless he picks up an injury along the way or he leaves the WWE, which will not happen (Sorry to burst your bubble). It is only a matter of finding his opponent, and if WWE wants to do something incredible, one has to imagine they will do the Cena – Undertaker match that the fans have been clamoring for. With Undertaker facing almost every big name in the business, Cena is the only ‘big name’ he hasn’t faced at WrestleMania. Either way, one has to believe that Cena will once again close the show at the mega event.
