WrestleMania 32 takes place on Sunday April 3rd at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
There seems to be no logical way to save the main event between the heel WWE Champion Triple H and the WWE’s crown prince Roman Reigns, with the crowd refusing to get behind the Samoan. There is no Money in the Bank winner to save the day either which makes it interesting to see how it turns out.
This list takes a look at 5 weird matches to take place at WrestleMania
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
5. Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg at WrestleMania 20
The match that could have been one of the greatest of all time turned out into one big dud.
Bill Goldberg had enthralled wrestling fans with his unique mannerisms in WCW and was booked just as strongly in the WWE as well, winning the World Heavyweight title within months of his arrival in the company.
Brock Lesnar had been pushed as the new face of the WWE, becoming a three-time WWE Champion and beating the Undertaker clean at Hell in a Cell.
The WrestleMania 20 matchup between Lesnar and Goldberg had wrestling fans salivating, but it all changed once the Internet Wrestling Community came to know that Goldberg was leaving the company after ‘Mania and that Lesnar was going to do the same to try his luck at the NFL.
The match was treated with a chorus of boos and the big send off for Lesnar and Goldberg turned out to be a damp squib. The fans cheered for special guest referee Stone Cold Steve Austin instead of either of the two wrestlers.
4. The BigShow vs Akebono at WrestleMania 21
Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels put on an awesome match that stole the show at WrestleMania 21. No match could have followed up that classic, but the match that was scheduled to be next had no chance to even come close to the same - the sumo match between The Big Show and Japanese Sumo legend Akebono.
The fans couldn’t care less for the sumo contest which was over in a matter of seconds as Akebono powered a thong wearing BigShow out of the ring and on to the floor.
Really, a Sumo novice taking on a legend? Was the result going to be any different? It didn’t help that the Big Show was playing the face that time – he did look really stupid in losing clean!
3. Jake Roberts vs Rick Martel at WrestleMania 7
Gimmick matches have always been a favourite of Vince McMahon and so it was hardly surprising that WrestleMania 7 had a Blindfold match between Jake Roberts and Rick Martel.
The match was frustratingly slow and the two wrestlers used most of their eight minutes of match time to stumble around the ring and try to find the other guy.
It was a colossal waste of time and talent; Wonder where Damian was at the time?!
4. Butterbean vs Bart Gunn at WrestleMania 15
WWE had a legitimate shoot fighting tournament involving its locker room in 1998 featuring the likes of Bradshaw, Godfather and Marc Mero. The tournament was surprisingly won by Bart Gunn who came to be considered as a legitimate tough guy on the roster.
So WWE Creative had this big idea of putting on actual boxing match at WrestleMania 15 pitting their toughest guy against professional boxer Butterbean.
WWE might have thought that no body with a name like that need to be taken seriously, but Butterbean proceeded to knock out WWE’s toughest shoot fighter with one punch in the first round.
Way to go, WWE!!
5. Bam Bam Bigelow vs Lawrence Taylor – WrestleMania 11
WWE has always had celebrities appear, even in matches at WrestleMania. But only once has the Creative been so star struck as to put a celebrity in the main event of WrestleMania. That was at WrestleMania 11 where NFL stalwart Lawrence Taylor took on mid carder Bam Bam Bigelow in the main event in a singles match.
Taylor did put on a good performance, for a person with no prior wrestling experience – But it was not even close to being something worthy of a WrestleMania main event match.
Considering that CM Punk walked out of the WWE over him not being put in the WrestleMania main event, one could only feel pity for the WWE roster at the time.
