The heart of the matter
The WWE had initially listed 30 Superstars as official participants in the Battle Royal, however, the number was reduced after the removal of the aforementioned seven performers.
Nevertheless, the company has added two NXT prospects to the match namely Chinese standout Tian Bing and Killian Dain (real name- Damian Mackle) from Northern Ireland. The matchup has been finalised with 25 official participants, including the two aforementioned Superstars.
What’s next?
WrestleMania 33 takes place on April 2nd at The Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal is expected to take place on the pre-show.
Author’s take
I, for one, applaud this move by the WWE. The company has made the right decision by excluding jobber tag teams like The Ascension and The Vaudevillains from the Battle Royal, whilst including blue-chip prospects such as Bing and Dain, giving the new stars a chance to shine on the grandest stage of them all.
As for the exclusion of Titus O’Neil, Sin Cara and Kalisto- they’ve had their time and need not fret over this missed opportunity. They are known ‘Caras’ aka ‘faces’ in the game (no pun intended) and can be used by WWE to fill out other slots on the ‘Mania card. After all, Wrestlemania is going to be 7-hours long!
