WrestleMania is the one WWE event of the year where fans are guaranteed to witness moments that they will remember for the rest of their wrestling-watching days – and few things are more memorable in the crazy world of WWE than shocking betrayals.
We’ve seen plenty of back-stabbings on Raw and SmackDown over the last year, from Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho to Big Cass and Enzo Amore, and WrestleMania 34 is all set up to provide us with some more memories that we won’t forget in a hurry.
In this article, we look at five betrayals that could take place at this year’s show.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 Aiden English betrays Rusev
Singing sensation Aiden English is more relevant than ever right now and the "Rusev Day" phenomenon just wouldn’t be the same without his dulcet tones.
However, it’s every man for himself in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal and we reckon there’s every chance that English tries – and ultimately fails – to throw Rusev out of this year’s match.
“The Bulgarian Brute” will have lots of supporters in New Orleans on 8 April (aka Rusev Day) and it’d only make the fans cheer for him more if his villainous sidekick were to turn against him.
#4 Becky Lynch betrays Naomi
This might not be the most exciting of betrayals, but Becky Lynch showed during her eliminations of Lita and Vickie Guerrero at the Royal Rumble that she’s willing to eliminate whoever gets in her way, no matter how popular they are, when it’s every woman for herself.
The Irish “Lass Kicker” has supported Charlotte Flair and Naomi in their battles with the Welcoming Committee and the Riott Squad over the last year, and she even had their backs when other members of the roster tried to step up and challenge for the SmackDown Women’s title.
Now, after a whole year out of the title picture, it’s time for Becky to put alliances aside and make history by winning the inaugural WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal. If Naomi, her long-term ally, gets in the way, then so be it!
#3 Paul Heyman betrays Brock Lesnar
It’s no secret that Brock Lesnar is expected to leave WWE and return to UFC later in 2018, with his WrestleMania 34 match against Roman Reigns possibly being his last inside the squared circle.
If Lesnar really is preparing for his final WWE match, where does that leave Paul Heyman? The Universal champion’s advocate is one of the company’s best talkers and Vince McMahon & Co. will surely want to keep him around after “The Beast” departs.
We suggested earlier this week that Heyman would be a perfect replacement for Daniel Bryan as SmackDown Live General Manager, but we’d love it even more if he betrayed Lesnar and aligned with Reigns!
#2 Shane McMahon betrays Daniel Bryan
As of the time of writing, it’s yet to be announced that Daniel Bryan will even have a match at WrestleMania 34, but the expectation is that he will team with Shane McMahon to face ‘fired’ duo Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
This is a storyline that has been going on since summer 2017 – when Owens first complained about Shane’s management of SmackDown Live – and you’d imagine it will finally conclude with a tag match in New Orleans.
However, Shane O’Mac has shown so many heel sides to his character over the last few months, especially during his interactions with Bryan, so we can’t rule out him turning against the SmackDown GM on the grand WrestleMania stage.
#1 Bayley betrays Sasha Banks
Anybody who watched Elimination Chamber will probably have thought that WWE was building towards a WrestleMania grudge match between long-term frenemies Bayley and Sasha Banks.
Barring a late change, it now looks like both Superstars will be involved in the Women’s Battle Royal, which gives Bayley the perfect opportunity to exact revenge on Sasha by eliminating her from the match.
After all, Sasha threw the former NXT Women's champion out of the Royal Rumble and then turned against her in the first-ever women's Elimination Chamber match, so it’d make sense for Bayley to finally get her own back (hug refusals on Raw don’t count!) at WrestleMania.
