Sophie Devine, Player of the Match: Batting with Beth Mooney is good fun. She is so calm and composed. I think I am enjoying batting down the order. This makes our batting order really threatening to have Maddy Darke and Chloe Piparo up in the order. Both of them are batting really well. It does allow you to have a bit of freedom.

It was going to be a tricky chase for the Scorchers despite all their batting might. But then, in the presence of two of the finest players this era has seen, they had it very easy in the end. Momentum was with the Renegades ahead of the second half but their bowlers just did not get their plans right as things slipped out of hand for good.

Hayley Matthews struck gold as she removed Chloe Piparo in the very first over. With Maddy Darke starting off positively, it allowed Beth Mooney the time she needed to ease herself in although she took got going soon enough as the Scorchers were placed well after the powerplay. Sarah Coyte removed Darke first ball before skipper Sophie Devine walked out and took control of the situation in the company of Mooney.

It was always going to be about this partnership. And neither player disappointed - the runs came at a regular clip with Mooney unleashing some outstanding textbook shots even as Devine was waiting for the right moment. She wasn't really quick off the blocks but once both batters were set, the Power Surge was activated in the 11th over. That proved to be a masterstroke as Devine tore into her opposite number Matthews to clobber three consecutive sixes before Coyte was also taken apart in the following over. Momentum was solely with the Scorchers and thereafter, they just did not look back.

Both Mooney and Devine went about their work without breaking a sweat, notching up a half-century in the process. Matthews rolled the dice with Harmanpreet Kaur and despite a flying effort from Georgia Wareham, Mooney was given a lifeline. It summed up the Renegades' campaign as they struggled to wrest control back in their favor. So much so that Devine's wicket was way too late with Amy Jones blitzing her way to an enterprising cameo herself.

A stroll in the park for the Scorchers and they now move into second position behind the Strikers on net run-rate, even as the Brisbane Heat have an extra game on hand as they're placed third. Things just go from bad to worse for the Renegades though and they need a real miracle hereon to generate a steam of momentum and make a late dash for the knockouts.

And that is that! Fitting that Mooney has the final say in proceedings after what has been a real masterclass. A clinical run chase and the Scorchers go level on points with the Adelaide Strikers and the Brisbane Heat.

Jones tried to get a bit too funky there. With the short third fielder in place, it comes apart for her. A very entertaining cameo but she can't score the winning runs here.
