FREE FULL FIGHT: Danielle Kelly evens the score with Jessa Khan in emotion-filled world title bout

At ONE Fight Night 14 last month, ONE Championship crowned its first-ever women’s atomweight submission grappling world champion, and her name is Danielle Kelly.

The Silver Fox BJJ standout took on former foe Jessa Khan inside at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and came out on top with a unanimous decision win.

Early on, the pair of BJJ black belts exchanged strong collar ties to gain dominant positioning, until Khan decided to switch things up and pulled guard.

Trapped inside her opponent's legs, Kelly kept her cool and stood up, carrying Khan's weight around. Having more experience inside the ONE Championship circle, Danielle Kelly used the walls to limit her opponent's space to move.

Khan then grabbed a hold of one of Kelly’s legs and threatened with a kneebar around the eight-minute mark. The Cambodian-American then went straight to her De La Riva guard and pulled off a brilliant sweep to end up on top. In one swift motion, Khan took Kelly’s back and secured a body triangle.

Khan kept cranking on the rear-naked choke but couldn’t get her arm under the chin. The resilient Kelly wiggled her way out and scored a catch with a successful toe-hold attempt.

Soon after, Kelly imposed a suffocating top game and kept Khan on the defensive. After a brief restart on the feet, the American scored another inside trip takedown.

Khan went back to her Z guard but Danielle Kelly used an overhook to keep the position. The 21-year-old Cambodian-American grappler went for a hail-mary kneebar but could not score a catch as time eventually ran out.

An emotional Danielle Kelly hoisted her shiny new belt as she was declared the winner via unanimous decision and the inaugural ONE atomweight submission grappling world champion.
