The Sunrisers Hyderabad a.k.a. SRH is a franchise cricket team based in Hyderabad, which participates in the Indian Premier League. Sunrisers Hyderabad was founded in 2012 and they replaced the Deccan Chargers in the IPL. The team has Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, in Hyderabad for its home ground which has a capacity of 55,000.
SRH has been once on the IPL winners list so far, when they defeated the prime contender of that season, RCB in the finals of IPL 2016. The Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise is owned by Kalanithi Maran of the Sun TV Network.
The IPL team is currently in somewhat of a transition phase as SRH recently announced a change in their leadership role. Aiden Markram, who captained SRH during IPL 2023, has now been released from his captaincy duties. SRH have named Pat Cummins as their new skipper ahead of the upcoming IPL 2024 season. The Australian pacer is also their most expensive player in history after the franchise bought him for a whopping INR 20.50 crore.
Earlier this year, the Sunrisers franchise even named Daniel Vettorri as their head coach while James Franklin will don the bowling coach role.

Sunrisers Hyderabad History
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) entered the IPL scene in 2013, filling the void left by the Deccan Chargers whose journey ended due to financial troubles.
SRH quickly established themselves as a consistent team. Their big breakthrough came in 2016 under the leadership of the explosive batsman David Warner. They defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in a thrilling final to clinch their maiden IPL title.
IPL 2013
In their debut IPL season (2013), Sunrisers Hyderabad exceeded expectations. They started strong, winning their opening match and performing well at home. Their bowling attack, featuring Dale Steyn and Amit Mishra, was a major strength. Though they didn't win the trophy, they reached the playoffs but were knocked out in the Eliminator stage by Rajasthan Royals.

Captains: Kumar Sangakkara and Cameron White
IPL 2014
The Sunrisers Hyderabad's 2014 IPL season wasn't their most successful. Despite having stars like Shikhar Dhawan and a new addition in David Warner, they fell short of the playoffs. They finished the season in 6th place with 6 wins and 8 losses. Though they didn't qualify, it marked the beginning of David Warner's journey with SRH, a journey that would see them become IPL champions just two years later.

Captains: Shikhar Dhawan and Darren Sammy
IPL 2015
Sunrisers Hyderabad's IPL 2015 campaign started with promise under David Warner's captaincy. Despite Warner's impressive performance, which earned him the Orange Cap for most runs, the team's over-reliance on their top order and inconsistent selection choices led to a mid-table finish. They secured 7 wins but also faced 7 losses, failing to qualify for the playoffs.

IPL 2016
The 2016 IPL season was a dream run for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Led by David Warner's explosive batting and a potent bowling attack featuring Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mustafizur Rahman, they clinched their maiden IPL title. They finished the season with 11 wins and 6 losses, showcasing consistent play throughout the tournament. Their bowling attack was particularly impressive, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar even bagging the Purple Cap for the most wickets.

IPL 2017
Entering the 2017 IPL as defending champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad had a strong start. Led by David Warner's Orange Cap-winning performance (most runs) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Purple Cap (most wickets), they secured a playoff spot. However, their journey ended in the Eliminator stage with a loss to Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite falling short of retaining the title, SRH finished third on the points table, showcasing their continued strength in the league.

IPL 2018
Despite losing David Warner to a ban, Sunrisers Hyderabad persevered in IPL 2018. Under Kane Williamson's captaincy, they finished the league stage with 10 wins and 7 losses, securing a playoff spot. Their journey continued with a win against Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 2, but ended with a defeat to Chennai Super Kings in the final. IPL 2019
Sunrisers Hyderabad's 2019 IPL season wasn't their strongest. IPL 2020
Led by the returning David Warner, Sunrisers Hyderabad defied a rough start marked by injuries. They clinched a playoff berth for the fifth year running. Despite a Qualifier 2 defeat to the Capitals, the season unearthed new stars. Players like Jason Holder, Sandeep Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha, and T Natarajan rose to the occasion, salvaging the campaign after a shaky beginning with six losses in the first nine games.

IPL 2021
IPL 2021 was a forgettable season for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Their batting faltered, and despite a bowling attack led by Rashid Khan, they couldn't find consistent wins. A captaincy change from David Warner to Kane Williamson mid-season didn't improve their fortunes. They finished a disappointing eighth, failing to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

Captains: David Warner, Manish Pandey and Kane Williamson
IPL 2022
IPL 2022 was another disappointment for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite a promising start with 5 wins in their first 7 games, they lost momentum and slumped with five consecutive defeats. This inconsistency, coupled with some underwhelming performances from key players, saw them miss the playoffs, finishing the season in 8th place.

IPL 2023
Sunrisers Hyderabad underwent a significant overhaul for IPL 2023. With a new coach in Brian Lara and Aiden Markram as captain, their season was a mixed bag. They started with a win but inconsistency plagued them throughout. Despite impressive performances from Heinrich Klaasen and flashes of brilliance from young guns, they ultimately finished with the wooden spoon. It was a dismal year for the Orange Army.

Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL 2024 Squad: Players to Watchout
Travis Head (Opener):
SRH's batting heavily relied on finding a stable opening partner in IPL 2023. Head, with his experience at the top of the order for Australia, brings much-needed solidity. He's also a clean hitter with the ability to capitalize on fielding restrictions, making him a key player for SRH's success. He was picked up for INR 6.80 Crore at the IPL 2024 auction.
Pat Cummins (Pacer):
The big-ticket buy of IPL 2024, Cummins brings much more than just his express pace. He's a seasoned campaigner with experience leading bowling attacks in international cricket. His ability to hit the deck and pick up crucial wickets in the death overs makes him a true match-winner for SRH. He will lead the side in IPL 2024 edition.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Pacer):
A stalwart of SRH's bowling attack for years, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a swing-bowling enigma. His ability to consistently find the yorker at the death and exploit early swing with the new ball makes him a vital cog in the SRH bowling unit. Injuries hampered him last season, but a fit Bhuvi can be a real asset for SRH.
Heinrich Klaasen (Wicket-keeper batsman):
This South African wicket-keeper brings a dynamic element to the SRH middle order. An aggressive batsman with a wide range of strokes, Klaasen can take the bowling apart on his day. His experience playing in high-pressure situations for South Africa will be invaluable for SRH, especially when they need quick runs or someone to steady the ship.
Umran Malik (Pacer):
Umran Malik is a young gun in the SRH arsenal, turning heads with his raw pace. This Jammu & Kashmir pacer impressed as a net bowler in 2021, earning a debut and becoming an IPL sensation for clocking over 150 kmph consistently. Since then, he's honed his skills and even made his India debut. While control can be an issue, his sheer pace makes him a wicket-taking threat. IPL 2024 will be a vital stage for him to refine his game and solidify his national team spot. Expect the crowds to roar as he unleashes his fiery pace!
