AEW and WWE recently angled behind the scenes for a top talent, but word now is that the Stamford-based company has secured the signing. The wrestling world is now reacting to the viral news, with many sharing the same sentiments against Tony Khan's company.
Stephanie Vaquer is reportedly headed to World Wrestling Entertainment after recently receiving offers from both AEW and WWE. She has been stripped of both CMLL Championships, just two weeks after dropping the NJPW Strong Women's Championship to Mercedes Moné at Forbidden Door.
La Primera had interest from AEW before Forbidden Door, and word is that WWE just reached out after the pay-per-view. Sources noted that Vaquer was never close to finalizing a deal with Khan, indicating that she did not waste much time in going with WWE. This did not go unnoticed by fans.
Several fans agreed that Vaquer likely went with WWE after seeing how little time women get on All Elite programming, unless they are Moné. Others pointed to Britt Baker's constant push. Check out a few of the reactions:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"She'll be d**n if TK books her to do the J.O.B for Mercedes again," one fan wrote.
WWE and Triple H also received strong praise from fans for landing another top talent for the roster. Below are a few reactions:
"She saw Iyo and Lyra had 20 minutes on a random Monday night raw and was like yeah ima go over here TK. [laughing emoji]," commented one fan.
"They have a better woman’s division. I don’t get the ppl who claim aew does because other than Toni, Mina, Mariah and Mercedes and Britt the division aint the best. Wwes division has gotten way better and more woman are known compared to the usual 4 horsewoman as before," wrote another fan.
Triple H clarifies speculation on AEW joke following WWE Money In the Bank
WWE has had a successful year for Premium Live Events so far. In addition to several international shows, the company has set new records with each PLE, and they have managed to cut down on lengthy cards and late nights.
All Elite Wrestling is known for its lengthy events, such as Forbidden Door held two weeks ago, which had 10 matches and ran more than 4 hours, not including the 5 matches on the pre-show. WWE Money In the Bank was held last Saturday, with 5 matches and a runtime of just over 3 hours.
Triple H commented during the Money In the Bank post-show press conference that this was better than "one of those 7-hour long shows," that everyone dreaded. He then clarified that he was referring to a past WWE show, not an event put on by AEW or anyone else.
Triple H and his team will present their next PLE on August 3 with SummerSlam. Khan and his crew will return to PPV on August 25 with All In.
