A recent report has revealed how the AEW management seemingly responded to former CMLL star Stephanie Vaquer joining WWE. She recently performed at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view in a Winner Takes All match.
Stephanie Vaquer has been making headlines since her match against Mercedes Mone (fka Sasha Banks) at the 2024 AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Although the 31-year-old failed to win the bout, the pro wrestling fraternity was quite impressed by her performance.
Vaquer reportedly received offers from both AEW and WWE following Forbidden Door. After weeks of speculation, she departed from CMLL and officially signed with the Stamford-based promotion.
On the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer recently noted that the AEW management was unhappy with Vaquer joining the global juggernaut. All Elite Wrestling was interested in hiring the former NJPW Strong Women's Champion, but she abruptly inked a deal with WWE.
"AEW wasn’t happy because they did want her and they made an offer to her, but she went with WWE. That’s the place she wanted to go, but how it happened was not well received." [H/T: WrestleTalk]
Stephanie Vaquer's former promotions were reportedly upset with her WWE move
Stephanie Vaquer performed for CMLL and NJPW before joining WWE. Both promotions recently announced her exit on their social media handles.
Dave Meltzer also noted that CMLL and NJPW were very upset with Vaquer for numerous reasons.
"CMLL was very upset over her, you know because of what happened, and also they had never been targeted in this way by WWE. New Japan was very upset because when they first announced the show in San Jose she was in the first batch of people announced, and they have been advertised for months." [H/T: WrestleTalk]
Vaquer will likely join the NXT roster in the coming weeks after signing with WWE. Only time will tell what the Stamford-based promotion has in store for the rising star.
