Yusuke Urameshi is 14 years old when Yu Yu Hakusho first starts and 18 when the series ends.

Yu Yu Hakusho, a cherished anime series, invites viewers on an immersive journey where the supernatural and human worlds converge seamlessly. At its core is Yusuke Urameshi, a rebellious teenager whose life transforms dramatically after an unforeseen event. Despite his rough exterior, Yusuke's unwavering loyalty and bravery are tested when he unexpectedly becomes a Spirit Detective, tasked with maintaining balance between realms. As the series evolves, through challenges and encountering a diverse cast of characters, each with their hidden motivations, Yusuke embarks on a quest of self-discovery, uncovering the true essence of strength and friendship.

How old is Yusuke Urameshi?

Yusuke Urameshi begins his journey in the series and manga at the age of 14. This is because for the first 13 years of his life, he was viewed by friends, family, and teachers as nothing more than a trouble-making delinquent. It wasn't until the start of Yu Yu Hakusho that Yusuke sacrificed his life to save a child, an unforeseen act that even the rulers of the Spirit World couldn't anticipate. It meant that he earned the chance to return to life but also assumed the role of a Spirit Detective, tasked with battling demons.

Thus before he turns 15, several events take place including Yusuke becoming Genkai's student for 6 months, training for the Dark Tournament (3 months) and the Dark Tournament (1 week). Then the events of Chapter Black alongside Yusuke's Kidnapping and Sensui take place over 1 week, making Yusuke 15 years old before the events of the Three Kings saga.

The Spirit Detective then spends an undisclosed period, estimated to be between two and three years, in the Demon realm. Although the exact duration remains unspecified, the author, Yoshihiro Togashi, did state that at the end of the series, Yusuke and Kaeko are 18 years old.
