The long-distance 2024 Olympic qualifier, Nico Young, is a July 2002-born Californian, who set a record at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships in 3000 and 5000 meters. In the 10,000-meter race at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June, he clocked 27:52.40 and finished in third place. His personal best in 10,000 meters is 26:52.72, set in March 2024.

Young went to Newbury Park High School and won several titles and honors, including the 2019–2020 Gatorade Player of the Year. In 2021, he enrolled at Northern Arizona University and will graduate with a degree in exercise science. Most recently, he broke Graham Blank's NCAA record effort of 13:03.78 to become the first collegiate athlete to ever run over the 13-minute mark, both indoors and outdoors.

Nico Young has two twin younger brothers, Leo and Lex, both of whom are athletes. They went to the same high school as Nico, Newbury Park High School and as of July 2024, they are at Stanford University.

In January 2024, Leo ran a 3000-meter record for Stanford as a freshman, clocking in at 7:55.36 in Seattle, Washington. In February 2024, Leo ran an indoor 3000m in Seattle, Washington, in 7:54.38, breaking the previous record. In the same event, his twin brother Lex ran a 7:55.17, which put him in second place all-time on the Stanford Freshman List.

Leo and his twin brother Lex ran a one-two in the 2022 state Division II final; Lex's timing of 14 minutes and 27.9 seconds was an all-time best for Division II and the third-fastest in the course's history.

Aaron Sahlman, Leo's teammate from Newbury Park, finished third in 14:41.1, while Leo finished in 14:38.4, due to which the Panthers won the then-state championship for the fourth time in a row. The twins wanted to break the course record, according to coach Tanya Brosnan, but a fast pace through several hills in the second mile proved to be adverse.

Nico Young has two brothers, Leo and Lex, both twins and athletes. The twins also have a YouTube channel with nearly 42,000 subscribers. Run Fast Apparel is their merchandise line, and their YouTube channel is called "L&L." In one of their videos, they asked their father, Andrew, to capture their team's practice for future reference. The issue was that they consistently outpaced the golf cart, as per the NY Times.

The four best athletes that Newbury Park High School produced are the Young brothers and Colin and Aaron Sahlman, all of whom achieved a new national record for the 4x1 mile run, clocking in at 16:29.31, which was 32.2 seconds faster than the previous record in 2022. Leo also won a bronze medal at the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships, just a couple of weeks before his 18th birthday.
