Sam Kendricks is an American pole vaulter and is a first lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve. Sam was born on September 7, 1992, in Oceanside, California and later attended Oxford High School in Oxford. Later Sam went to the University of Mississippi and turned professional in 2014. Sam is a three-time indoor and six-time outdoor national champion. Kendricks won bronze at the 2016 Olympics. He also won gold medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships.
In 2019, he set the American pole vault record at 6.06 meters. He has a height of 6 ft 1 in (185 cm) and weighs 175 lb (79 kg). Kendricks' personal bests are 6.06 meters outdoors and 5.90 meters indoors. He has also won medals at the World Indoor Championships and the Diamond League.

Sam Kendricks qualified for the 2024 Olympics trial, clearing 5.92 meters (19 ft 5 in). He broke his own record of 5.91 meters (19 ft 4.75 in) set in 2016. With this, Sam secured his spot in the Olympics for the third time. He became the only third U.S. athlete to qualify three times in the men's pole vault, alongside Bob Richards and Earl Bell. Kendricks won a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics. He was withdrawn from the 2020 Summer Olympics because he tested positive for COVID-19.
He set a personal best record of 5.86 meters (19 feet 2.5 inches) at the indoor 2015 Reno Pole Vault Summit. Due to his performance, Sam earned the "Push-off" World Record at 4 feet 6 inches (1.37 meters).
Sam Kendricks has set many impressive pole vault records. His best outdoor jump is 6.06 meters (19 feet 10.5 inches) which he set in 2019. He became the only American to achieve 6.06 meters in pole vaulting. His best indoor jump is 5.90 meters (19 feet 4.25 inches), set in Portland in 2016. At the 2015 Reno Pole Vault Summit, Sam jumped 5.86 meters (19 feet 2.5 inches). In 2017, Sam jumped 6.00 m (19 ft 8 in) and won 2017 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He became the 22nd person to join the 6 meters club.
