Nuguse enjoyed a successful spell with the Fighting Irish for the next four years. In his sophomore year, Nuguse was named the ACC Track Performer of the Year after he clinched two national titles and a couple of conference championships. In his final year of college, he broke the NCAA record in 1,5000m with a time of 3:34.68 which eventually earned him a spot in the 2024 U.S. Olympic trials. Nuguse also qualified for the Tokyo games in 2021 but could not participate due to an injury. In the U.S. track and field trials in Eugene, Nuguse secured third place with one of his fastest times ever at 3:36.19 and qualified for Paris 2024. He will be representing the United States and will be aiming to win gold in his second Olympics tournament.
