India suffered an early blow at the Denmark Open Superseries Premier after the Women’s Doubles pairing of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa were knocked out in the first round, losing in straight games by the Japanese pair of Reika Kakiiwa and Miyuki Maeda 21-19 21-18 on Wednesday.
The opening game started off on a close note, but at the 8-8 mark, the pair of Maeda and Kakiiwa started to take control of proceedings, winning points at a stretch to put the pressure on the Indians even as they tried to remain in contention and eventually won the game 21-19.

The second game saw a thrilling contest, as both pairs matched one another shot-for-shot but at the key moment at the 16-16 mark, the Japanese duo took the lead and won 5 out of the next 7 points to clinch the game and progress through to the next round.
