Fifth-seeded K Srikanth bows out in the second round

Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has been defeated by Indonesian shuttler Tommy Sugiarto in the second round of Yonex Denmark Open. The unseeded shuttler defeated the fifth seed Indian in straight sets, 21-15,21-17. It took only 39 minutes for Sugiarto to win the match and qualify for the next round. Srikanth was widely expected to win the match but he failed to do so.
Srikanth took a slender 0-2 lead in the first game. But Sugiarto was not in a mood to let go, as he fought back to level the scores at 5-5. It was all uphill for the Indonesian since then as he went on to take a healthy lead of 13-8. The Indian failed to match up to his counterpart as Sugiarto raced off with the game and took an all important lead in the match.

The second game was more of a see-saw battle. Both the players equalled each other shot by shot. With the game tied at 6-6, Srikanth took off and took a lead of 9-12, but Sugiarto was in no mood to let go. He came back and equalled the score at 12-12, won another point to take the lead but Srikanth levelled the score this time. But, there was no respite for the Indian after that as Sugiarto raced on to win the game 21-17 and hence the match.

Srikanth’s loss means that Indian challenge in the Men’s singles section is over.
