In a big result for India, PV Sindhu progressed through to the semifinal of the Denmark Open Superseries premier, defeating Wang Yihan of China 21-18 21-19 in the quarters on Friday.
The opening game saw the Indian dominate proceedings from the word go, as she raced away to a 3-1 early lead and then built that lead further, to eventually head into the break with a score of 11-5 in her favour.
But the other side of the break saw the number 6 seed claw her way back as she won 4 out of the next 6 points to make it 9-13.But a bigger scare for the Indian came at the 20-11 mark when being just one point away from clinching the game, she let go of as many as 7 points consecutively to make it 18-20. But there was no heroic come-from-behind win for Wang as Sindhu finished the game in the next point to take the first game 21-18.
The second game started off in a similar fashion as he first with the Indian taking an early 7-1 lead and further strengthening it to head into the interval with an 11-5 advantage.
Similar to the opening game, Sindhu seemed to have a bit of momentum after the break as Wang started to fight back once again, winning 14 out of the next 22 points to make it 19-19 at one stage.
But that's when the two-time World Championships bronze medalist raised her game a notch, winning the next point and sealing the match with the following match opportunity to enter into the semifinals.
She will now take on the reigning World Champion Carolina Marin of Spain in the semifinal.
