World No.1 and Top seed Saina Nehwal moved into the second round of the Denmark Open Superseries premier after beating Busnan Ongbumrungphan of Thailand 23-21 14-21 21-18 in the opening round on Wednesday.
The opening game saw the Thailand player take the lead from the 4-4 mark, but Saina fought back very well to assume control of proceedings from the 10-10 mark, even as Ongbumrungphan tried to stay in the game. But there were two decisive turns in the game one at 18-18 and then at the 21-21 point and both instances, it was the Indian who held her nerve and eventually sealed the game 23-21.
The second game saw Ongbumrungphan claw her way back into the contest as she won points at a stretch to eventually seal the game 21-14 and take the match into a decider.
The decider started off with Saina leading 6-3 before her opponent fought back to level scores at 10-10, but the World Championships silver medalist increased the intensity of her play and started to gain control of proceedings, chipping away in the game by winning points in streaks and took the game 21-14 to close out the contest and progress through to the next round.
