India’s Parupalli Kashyap bowed out of the Japan Open Superseries, losing 21-14 21-18 to Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals on Friday, thereby bringing to an end the Indian campaign at the competition.
The opening game saw the Chou take a 3-1 lead before the Indian fought back to make it 5-5 after the opening 10 points. It was a topsy-turvy affair after that until the 8-8 mark, when the Chinese Taipei shuttler started to assume control of proceedings, first winning 2 points at a stretch and then backing that up with 2 more streaks of 4 and 5 points each to put huge pressure on the Indian. He would eventually seal the game 21-14 in his favour.
In the second game, Chou carried on his dominating form winning points at a streak and putting further pressure on the Indian, even as he tried to claw his way back into the contest, and even managed to save as many as 4 match points at the 20-14 mark, before eventually succumbing to his opponent.
Kashyap’s loss brings to an end India’s disappointing campaign at the tournament, which saw World No.1 Saina Nehwal crash out in the second round, World No, Kidambi Srikanth also getting eliminated at the same stage and the World No.10 doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa failing to make it into the quarterfinals.
They would be hoping to put in a much better performance when they take to the courts in the Korea Open Superseries, which commences from September 15th.
