India’s Ajay Jayaram progressed through to his maiden Superseries final after beating World No.7 Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei 21-19 21-15 in the semifinal of the Korea Open Superseries, on Saturday.
The opening game started off on a close note, with both players winning 4 out of the first 8 points before Jayaram took the lead, winning 3 points straight to go 7-4 up. Chen, though, pegged back after that to make it 11-11, from where on it seemed like he would assume control of proceedings, winning 4 points to go 15-11 up. But Jayaram stormed back into the match to make it 16-16 and then turned the tables on Chen at the 17-17 mark, by claiming 4 out of the next 6 points to win the first game 21-19.
Jayaram continued to carry the momentum into the second game, starting off with a 3-0 lead before Chen fought back to make it 3-3. The game started to tilt Jayaram’s way at the 6-6 mark when he won 4 points straight to go 10-6 up.
After the interval mark, though, Chen fought back to win 6 out of the next 8 points to level the scores at 12-12. But the Indian fought back once again and at the 15-15 mark, won 6 points straight to close the game at 21-15 and progress through to his first Superseries final.
He will take on Chen Long of China in the summit clash.
