The Indian Women’s Doubles pairing of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa made a winning start to their 2015 World Championships campaign after beating Hsieh Pei Chen and Wu Tin Yung of Chinese Taipei 21-10 21-18 in the second round on Wednesday.
The opening game proved to be fairly easy affair for the Indians as after racing away to an early 4-1 lead, they continued to chip away with the points not letting their opponents any chance to come into the contest and sealing the game 21-10.
The same game proved to be a lot more even affair, but Gutta and Ponnappa began to assume control from the 8-8 mark and didn't let that advantage slip, leading consistently by a minimum of 4 points throughout to eventually take the game 21-18 and progress through to the 3rd round.
This win was much needed for India, considering that the other doubles pair of Pradnya Gadre and Sikki reddy were knocked out earlier in the day. Gutta and Ponnappa will face Reika Kakiiwa and Miyuka Maeda of Japan in the pre-quarters.
Final Scoreline- Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa beat Hsieh Pei Chen/Wu Ti Jung 21-10 21-18
