Day 2 of the Badminton World Championships saw Saina Nehwal., Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy move into the third round while ParupalliKashyap bowed out of the tournament after losing in three games to Nguyen Nien Minh of China.
In the doubles, the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also moved into the third round with a comfortable straight games win while the Men’s Doubles pair of Pranav Jerry Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar were knocked out thereby ending India’s Men’s Doubles campaign at the competition.
Day 4 of the World Championships will see Saina in action as she faces Sayaka Takahashi of Japan. the doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa will also take to the court and they will play Reika Kakiiwa and Miyuka Maeda of Japan.
Kidambi Srikanth will also look to move into the quarterfinals as he faces the 13th seed Hu Yun of China in the pre-quarters.
But perhaps the biggest test of the day awaits PV Sindhu, who will have her work cut out against China’s Li Xuerui and will certainly need to be on top-of-her-game against the Chinese.
So it promises to yet another cracking day of badminton and one can only hope that most of the Indians in the frame move into the quarterfinal stage of the tournament.
