2016 Malaysia Super Series Premier: Saina Nehwal through to the quarterfinals

World No.8 and the Number 3 seed Saina Nehwal progressed through to the uarterfinals of the 2016 Malaysia Super Series Premier after beating Bae Yeon-Ju of Korea 21-10 21-16 in the second round on Thursday.

The Indian looked in totl command of proceedings from the first minute, taking an 5-0 lead before stretching it to 11-3 at the interval mark. The other side of the break saw the 26-year-old continue to chip away with the points, as she won 10 out of the next 17 points to clinch the opening game 21-10.

The second game saw Saina resume from where she had left off in the opening game, as she took an early 7-3 lead over her Korean opponemt, looking assured both near as far as well at the far end of the court.

She further built her advantage after that, and despite a slight stuter at the 19-9 mark, whoch saw her lose 5 straight points, closed the game 21-16 to move into the final eight of the competition.

Her oppoent at that stage will be Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Nehwal's compatriot, PV SIndhu, also qualified for the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open, defeating Sung Ji Hyun 22-20, 21-17 in two very closely fought games. She will next face Ratchanok Intanon in the quarters on Friday.
