“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, and live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.”
Swami Viveknanda propagated this philosophy in one his famous speeches in USA in 1893 and here we were at the IMT Ghaziabad badminton court witnessing each of these words come to life on a pleasant Thursday evening. The shuttlers were ready in their entire capacity to demolish their opponents in the Quarter Finals. The business end of the tournament was now upon us and one could smell the tension and anticipation in the air.
Quarter Final 1
As soon as the referee uttered the three magical words of “Love All, Play!”, the shuttle started to dance to the rhythm of the rackets. The contest was between the Dynamos (Jr. D) and the GameChangers (Sr. G). Men’s singles went to the Dynamos while the GameChangers clinched the Women’s singles. As Archit, the star player of the Dynamos stepped on to the court along with Pragun for Men’s Doubles, expectations reached their threshold. But something unfortunate happened. During the match, Archit suffered a muscle rupture. Although he continued, the Dynamos had no reply to some fantastic skills shown by Amit and Sumeet of the GameChangers. The GameChangers also went on to win the mixed doubles contest and achieved a well deserved victory.
Quarter Final 2
In the second Quarter Final, the F’s (Jr.F) locked horns with the Dabbangs (Sr. D). Although the F’s put up a good effort, the Dabbangs proved a little too hot to handle. They won the first three games including the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles and Men’s Doubles in a best of five scenario. Shubham, Vidisha and Prateek all came up with commendable performances to book a place in the semis.
Quarter Final 3
This was anticipated to be a contest between the friendly foes. Our very own Arab Emirs were up against each other. DCP-B showed dominance right from the beginning and they never loosened their grip on the match. They beat DCP-A 3-0 who fought very well but could not match up to DCP-B’s fine gameplay. Saksham, Ritu, Vidit and Vivek were the key performers for DCP-B.
Quarter Final 4
The QF4 provided the necessary thrill to the day. A five game nail-biter, which went on for more than 2 hours set everybody’s hearts racing. The match swung like a pendulum and ultimately WTF (Sr. F) punched above their weight to sink the Executives’ juggernaut. They won by a margin of 3-2. Saket of WTF (Sr. F) and Sandeep of Executives enthralled the crowd with their performances.
The cream was whipped from the milk. The top 4 were ready to battle it out for the crown of the BADdiction Champion. As Mahatma Gandhi said :
“Glory lies in the attempt to reach one’s goal and not in reaching it.”
So the million dollar questions remained “Who will make the best attempt?”
