The Indian shuttlers had a 2nd successive fruitful day as Srikanth, Saina, Sindhu, and HS Prannoy qualified for the quarter-finals stages of the Badminton Asia Championships played at Wuhan, China on Thursday.
Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu won their matches in straight games. K Srikanth won his game by default as his opponent retired hurt. HS Prannoy was stretched to 3 games. Sai Praneeth lost to Chinese Chen Long in two straight games.
The men’s doubles pair of Arjun MR and Shlok Ramchandran and the women’s doubles pair of Meghana Jakkampudi and Poorvisha S Ram were knocked out in the second round.
Saina and Sindhu have easy outings
The World number 12 Saina Nehwal defeated Chinese Gao Fangjie in two straight games. She dominated the home player winning the game 21-18 and 21-8.
In the first game, Gao gave a good fight but Saina held her nerves to win first set at 21-18. In the second game, the task was much easier as Saina gave an impressive performance to win with a convincing.21-8 victory.
Saina Nehwal will face Lee J M of Korea in the quarterfinals. Lee J M stunned Intanon.
World number 3 PV Sindhu had no problems in dispatching her opponent Chen XX in two straight games 21-12, 21-15 to progress into the quarterfinals. She will now face the winner of Sung J H and B Ongbumrungpan in quarterfinals.
Srikanth qualifies with the opponent retiring, HS Prannoy won it three sets, Sai loses to Chen Long
Srikanth qualified for the quarter-finals as his opponent Wong WK retired due to an injury. The World number 1 was leading 7-2 when Wong WK decided to forfeit the match. In the repeat 2018 CWG finals, Srikanth will take on Lee Chong Wei in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
HS Prannoy had to fight it out against Chinese Taipei Wang T W. The Indian star lost the first set 16-21 before making a comeback to win the next two sets 21-14,21-12 to progress into quarterfinals.He will face a tough challenge of Korean star Son W Ho.
Chinese star player Chen Long defeated Sai Praneeth easily with a scoreline of 21-12,21-12.
Doubles lose in the 2nd round
The doubles pair of Arjun MR and Shlok Ramachandran lost to World number 1 Li JH and Liu Y C in two straight games with little resistance at 21-11 21-19.
The women’s doubles pair of Meghana Jakkampudi and Poorvisha S Ram were beaten in two straight games to Kititharakul and Prajongjai with the scoreline at 8-21,9-21. Indian pair were hardly any match for Thailand pair.
