India’s mixed doubles campaign at the Badminton Asia Championship came to an end on Thursday, after the pairing of Arun Vishnu and Aparna Balan were knocked out in the second round in straight games 21-13 21-5 by China’s Kai Lu and Yaqiong Huang.
The Chines pairing dominated right from the outset, winning 6 points on the trot in Game 1 as compared to their opponents’s 2 and then further continued their impressive showing the next game as well in a match that lasted just under 30 minutes.
While India have done well in the singles draw of the tournament so far, the performance of the doubles has been contrastingly disappointing. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa bowed out in the opening round of the women’s doubles on Tuesday as did the men’s doubles pairing of Akshay Dewalkar and Jerry Pranaav who also suffered a first-round exit.
