The Badminton Asia Championship commenced in Wuhan, China on Tuesday. India featured in two events on the opening day- men’s singles and women’s doubles. Parupalli Kashyap won his singles match against Derek Wong of Singapore in straight games to progress through to the second round. On the other hand, the women’s doubles pairing of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa didn't have the best of beginnings as they crashed out in the opening round.

India did well once again in the singles on Day Two of the Championships with PV Sindhu and Parupalli Kashyap recording victories in their respective second round matches but there was disappointing news on the doubles front again, as Akshay Dewalkar and Jerry Pranaav crashed out in the first round.
