Jakarta, Oct 24 (IANS) An Indonesian minister said on Monday that a thorough evaluation of a regeneration mechanism for Indonesian badminton was direly needed following the failures in Denmark Open.
Indonesia failed to place any player in the finals in one of the world badminton sports' prestigious tournaments, which ended on Sunday, reports Xinhua.
After Indonesian Mixed Double players Tantowi Ahmad/Lilyana Natsir got gold medals in the Rio Olympics, Indonesian badminton players failed to get any title in the recent Denmark Open.
"Therefore we encourage officials to carry out an internal evaluation. Preparation for the second-tier and third-tier players must be conducted better," Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nachrawi said here.
He said that the plans to carry out the evaluation should be drafted in the upcoming national badminton congress scheduled from October 30 to November 1.
The minister said that the new mechanism must be capable of sourcing new talented players in the country.
