The first day of the BWF Denmark Open saw some exciting action as the best of the best gun for glory in Odense. For the Indian contingent, the opening day brought a string of losses, with only PV Sindhu surviving the onslaught.
First up in action on Tuesday was Lakshya Sen as he took on Lu Guang Zu. Sen got off to an incredibly dominating start, dictating the pace to clinch the opening game 21-12. However, his Chinese counterpart was quick to turn things around, forcing a decider 21-19.
The final game was all Lu, with the World No. 18 pulling off an incredible display to hold off the 23-year-old. With this loss, India's men's singles campaign at the Denmark Open drew to a close.
In the women's singles, PV Sindhu laid claim to her first win since the Paris Olympics. The former World Champion won her opening game against Chinese Taipei's Pai Yu Po with ease, before the latter retired midway through the second game due to a knee injury.
Elsewhere, Aakarshi Kashyap fell to seventh seed Supanida Katethong in her first-round match at the Denmark Open, while Malvika Bansod was shown the door by Nguyen Thuy Linh. India failed to fare too well in the doubles events as well, as the pairs of Rutuparna Panda/Swetaparna Panda and Sathish Kumar Karunakaran/Aadya Variyath lost their respective women's and mixed doubles matches.
